On the occasion of the Day of the Seafarer 2026, Gujarat Maritime University is organizing a special global dialogue to recognize the invaluable contribution of seafarers who keep global trade moving despite challenging and high-risk conditions.

The session will feature insights from Prof. (Dr.) S. Shanthakumar, Capt. Suneha Gadpande, Capt. Gaurav Akolkar, and Mr. Chirag Bahri, who will discuss seafarers’ welfare, safety, mental wellbeing, resilience, and the future of the maritime profession.

Celebrating International Yoga Day 2026 at GMU πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

The Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) Sports Committee and NSS Unit, in collaboration with Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), organized a Yoga Series from 18 to 20 June 2026, culminating in the celebration of International Yoga Day on 21 June 2026. The programme featured sessions on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) and Pranayama, bringing together faculty and staff to promote fitness, mindfulness, and overall well being.

The celebrations were marked by a morning yoga session near the Preamble, where participants practiced various yoga asanas and reflected on the importance of maintaining a healthy body, focused mind, and balanced lifestyle. The enthusiastic participation throughout the programme highlighted the community’s commitment to wellness and self care.

International Yoga Day reminds us that yoga is not merely an exercise but a way of life that fosters harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. GMU extends its appreciation to all participants and organizers for making the event a success and for strengthening a culture of health and well being within the academic community.

Gujarat Maritime University is pleased to share that Ms. Meenakshi Priya, Teaching and Research Associate, presented her research paper, β€œCommodifying the Oceans: Rethinking the Freedom of the Seas through Marxist and TWAIL Perspectives,” at the workshop β€œFreedom of the Seas and Freedom of the Individual: A Critical Appraisal” held at SOAS University of London on 21 May 2026.

Funded by the British Academy under Professor Irini Papanicolopulu's project, β€œFreedom of the Seas and Human Rights Protection,” the workshop brought together leading international legal scholars to discuss the intersections of maritime freedoms and human rights. Ms. Priya's participation reflects GMU's commitment to fostering globally engaged maritime scholars and advancing critical scholarship in the Law of the Sea.
