Guest Lecture on Applications of Geospatial Technology in Coastal Dynamics
The Centre for Geoinformatics, The Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed to be University), Gandhigram, organized a special guest lecture on “Applications of Geospatial Technology in Coastal Dynamics” on 10th February 2026 at the Centre for Geoinformatics. The session was delivered by Dr. S. Selvaraj, Associate Professor, PG & Research Department of Geology, National College (Autonomous), Tiruchirapalli. The lecture focused on shoreline analysis of the Colachel region, Kaniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, over a period of time. Using Google Earth Pro, shoreline changes were systematically studied and compared. The analysis revealed coastal erosion in certain areas, while land accretion was observed in others. Dr. Selvaraj explained that human activities such as harbor construction, seawall development, sand mining, and urban expansion have significantly influenced the natural movement of waves and sediments. These interventions have resulted in alterations to land surfaces, reduction in beach width, and modification of natural coastal features. The lecture highlighted the vital role of GIS and Remote Sensing tools in monitoring shoreline dynamics and emphasized the importance of effective coastal zone management for environmental protection and sustainable development. Dr. M. புவிசார் தொழில்நுட்பத்தின் பயன்பாடுகள் குறித்து சிறப்பு சொற்பொழிவு
காந்திகிராம கிராமிய நிகர்நிலைப் பல்கலைக்கழகம், காந்திகிராமில் செயல்படும் புவிசார் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப மையம் சார்பில் 10 பிப்ரவரி 2026 அன்று “கடற்கரை இயக்கவியலில் புவிசார் தொழில்நுட்பத்தின் பயன்பாடுகள்” என்ற தலைப்பில் சிறப்பு சொற்பொழிவு நடைபெற்றது. இச்சிறப்பு சொற்பொழிவை திருச்சிராப்பள்ளி தேசியக் கல்லூரி (தன்னாட்சி), புவியியல் முதுநிலை மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி துறையின் இணைப் பேராசிரியர் டாக்டர் சு. செல்வராஜ் அவர்கள் வழங்கினார். சொற்பொழிவில் கன்னியாகுமரி மாவட்டம், கொளச்சல் பகுதியின் கடற்கரை கோட்டில் காலப்போக்கில் ஏற்பட்ட மாற்றங்கள் ஆய்வு செய்யப்பட்ட விதம் விளக்கப்பட்டது. Google Earth Pro மென்பொருளைப் பயன்படுத்தி கடற்கரை மாற்றங்கள் ஒப்பீட்டு முறையில் பகுப்பாய்வு செய்யப்பட்டன. சில பகுதிகளில் கடற்கரை கரைசிதைவு (Coastal Erosion) ஏற்பட்டதையும், சில பகுதிகளில் நிலச் சேர்க்கை (Land Accretion) காணப்பட்டதையும் ஆய்வு விளக்கியது. துறைமுக கட்டுமானம், கடற்கரை பாதுகாப்பு சுவர்கள் அமைத்தல், மணல் அகழ்வு, நகர்ப்புற விரிவாக்கம் போன்ற மனிதச் செயல்பாடுகள் அலைகள் மற்றும் மணல் நகர்வு போன்ற இயற்கை செயல்முறைகளில் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளன என்பதும் எடுத்துரைக்கப்பட்டது. இதனால் கடற்கரை அகலம் குறைதல், நில அமைப்பு மாற்றம் மற்றும் இயற்கை கடற்கரை வடிவங்கள் பாதிப்பு அடைந்துள்ளன என்பதும் சுட்டிக்காட்டப்பட்டது. இந்த நிகழ்வு, கடற்கரை மாற்றங்களை கண்காணிப்பதில் GIS மற்றும் தொலை உணர்வு (Remote Sensing) தொழில்நுட்பங்களின் அவசியத்தையும், சுற்றுச்சூழல் பாதுகாப்பிற்கான திறன் வாய்ந்த கடற்கரை மேலாண்மை தேவைப்பாட்டையும் வலியுறுத்தியது. நிகழ்வின் நிறைவில் புவிசார் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப மைய இயக்குநர் (பொறுப்பு) டாக்டர் மு. முத்துக்குமார் அவர்கள் நன்றியுரை வழங்கி, தலைமை விருந்தினருக்கு நினைவுப் பரிசு வழங்கி கௌரவித்தார்.
