CUKashmir’s DIC organises mission Yuva–Udyam Jagriti awareness prog
Ganderbal, Aug 21: Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) organised a Mission Yuva–Udyam Jagriti awareness programme to familiarise students with the objectives of the initiative and encourage them towards skill development, innovation, entrepreneurship and self-employment at Tulmulla campus here Friday.
Addressing the participants, Director, DIC and Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, spoke about the relevance of Mission Yuva in encouraging young people to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. He emphasised that learning should be accompanied by practical application and encouraged students to acquire skills, experiment with them and test their ideas in real-world situations. Stressing the importance of practice and innovation, he said, “Learn the skill and test it.”
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, emphasised the importance of acquiring relevant skills in a rapidly changing professional environment. He appreciated the efforts of DIC in organising the programme and stressed that skills can significantly enhance an individual's value and opportunities. He observed that “skill will make you important, if not indispensable,” and described DIC as a wonderful concept for promoting practical learning, creativity and innovation.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Joint Director DIC, Dr. Javid Ahmad Wani, gave an overview of Mission Yuva–Udyam Jagriti and explained its major components. He briefed the participants about the opportunities available under the initiative and encouraged them to understand the scheme and participate in its various activities.
In his address, District Coordinator, Mission Yuva, Ganderbal, Mr. Arif Nazir, explained the scheme and its implementation process. He briefed the participants about the Mission Yuva Hackathon, particularly the registration procedure, submission of ideas and concepts, and other requirements for participation. He encouraged the students to utilise the platform to present innovative ideas and explore their entrepreneurial potential.

CUKashmir Maths Deptt launches Ramanujan Lecture Series and "Bharatiya Ganit Through BEIMI" VAC Course
Ganderbal, Aug 21: In a significant step towards implementing the National Education Policy 2020, Department of Mathematics, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), launched two student-centric initiatives: Ramanujan Mathematics Lecture Series, and a unique VAC Course titled "Bharatiya Ganit Through BEIMI".
Speaking about the initiatives, Dr. Haribhau R. Bhapkar, Head, Department of Mathematics & NEP-2020 Nodal Officer, expressed gratitude to Vice Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Dean Academics affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean School of Physical Sciences, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, for their support.
About the Ramanujan Mathematics Lecture Series, Dr. Bhapkar said, "Through this series, we will invite eminent personalities from Mathematics and allied sciences for the academic growth and holistic development of students."
In his lecture, Prof. Nadeem highlighted how Mathematics plays a vital role in the development and implementation of Artificial Intelligence. He explained that concepts like Linear Algebra, Probability, and Optimization form the backbone of AI and Machine Learning models. He further emphasized that strengthening mathematical foundations is essential for students to lead in the era of AI and data-driven technologies.
Highlighting a major curricular innovation, Dr. Bhapkar announced the launch of the VAC Course - “Bharatiya Ganit Through BEIMI”. "This course is grounded in our defined BEIMI Pedagogy – Brainstorming Experiments/Activities, Inferences, Mathematical Insights. It integrates Ancient Indian Mathematical wisdom with experiential learning to help students understand mathematics by doing and discovering," he added.
Dr. Bhapkar informed that the department has implemented the BEIMI Teaching-Learning Pedagogy and established the BEIMI Mathematics Lab to transform classrooms into incubators of innovation. “Not just for degrees, but for ideas, for resolving societal issues, and for nation-building.” Students of the department have filed five copyrights related to issues in Kashmir valley, presented 21 papers on IKS in an international conference and presently working on a patent.

CUKashmir deptt of Law holds extension lecture
Ganderbal, Aug 20: Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), organised an extension lecture on “Corporate Governance and the Law Relating to the Prevention of Oppression and Mismanagement “at the Tulmulla campus here.
In his welcome address, Associate Prof. Dr. Jehrul Islam, highlighted the growing importance of corporate governance in a modern democratic and economic framework. He talked about the expanding scope and significance of the corporate sector and the need for transparency, accountability, responsibility and ethical conduct in corporate management. He further highlighted the academic significance of corporate law within the Department and informed the gathering that Corporate Law is offered as a specialization for LL.M. students, thereby providing them an opportunity to develop specialized knowledge in this area of legal education.
In his special lecture, faculty member Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. (Dr.) Qazi M. Usman, discussed various provisions designed to protect shareholders and other stakeholders from oppressive and prejudicial conduct within companies. He elaborated on the legal concept of “oppression and mismanagement,” its essential ingredients and the remedies available under company law. He discussed the relevant provisions of the Companies Act, 2013, particularly the provisions dealing with prevention of “oppression and mismanagement” and the role of the adjudicatory authorities in granting appropriate relief.
The resource person examined several landmark English and Indian judicial decisions relating to “oppression and mismanagement.” Through these case laws, he explained how courts and tribunals have developed and applied the principles governing corporate disputes, minority protection, corporate accountability and the prevention of abuse of corporate powers.

National seminar on GST Reforms 2.0 concludes at CUKashmir
Ganderbal, Aug 20: The two-day national seminar on "GST Reforms 2.0: Sectoral Growth Prospects and Challenges," organized by the Department of Commerce, School of Business Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, concluded at Tulmulla Campus here on Thursday.
Addressing the valedictory function, Dean, School of Social Sciences, Prof. D. K. Madaan, highlighted the economic and political dimensions of GST and its implications for welfare and resource allocation. He noted that the unified tax structure has improved efficiency by enabling businesses to source inputs more productively, reducing supply-chain costs and encouraging wider participation in the tax network. He also called for further reforms promoting sustainability, including tax incentives for environmentally responsible production.
In his speech, former Vice-Chancellor of CCS University, Meerut, Prof. Narendra Kumar Taneja, remarked that the unified market dismantles the "tax-inspired, tax-distorted vertical integration" of the pre-GST era, where businesses were forced to produce all inputs in-house to avoid cumbersome inter-state taxes. This fragmentation, he explained, hurt specialization and scale. With GST, producers can source inputs efficiently, boosting productivity. He cited studies showing that major companies like HUL, Marico, and Nestle have restructured their supply chains, reducing warehouses and costs due to the uniform tax structure. Prof. Taneja advocated for using GST to promote environmental sustainability by taxing goods that contribute more to greenhouse emissions at a higher rate, while lowering rates for eco-friendly products. He urged students and young researchers to examine emerging dimensions of taxation and policy.
Assistant Director (Retd.) and Advocate, Mr. M.G. Kodandaram, offered a practitioner's perspective on the journey of GST. He explained that GST successfully transitioned India from an origin-based to a consumption-based tax system, ensuring equitable revenue distribution among states. He illustrated how the tax rate structure has rationalized, noting that out of the original 425 items in the 28% bracket in 2017, only 28 items remain today. He emphasized the importance of Input Tax Credit (ITC) in eliminating the cascading effect of taxes and urged scholars to study the place of supply rules.
Earlier, Dean, School of Business Studies, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath for his proactive support and to ICSSR for providing financial assistance, noting that the seminar was an example of the university's commitment to hosting relevant intellectual activities aligning with the National Policy of Education 2020.
Seminar convenor and Head, Department of Commerce, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din Shah, presented a detailed overview of the proceedings of the seminar. He informed the gathering that the University had received 74 research papers from scholars and academicians from different parts of the country on the theme and after a thorough scrutiny and evaluation of the submissions, only 50 papers were selected for presentation during the seminar, ensuring that the deliberations remained focused, research-oriented and aligned with the objectives of the event. Thereafter the dignitaries distributed certificates among the participants.

CUKashmir holds hackathon awareness camp
Ganderbal, Aug 20: Under the Udyam Jagriti 5.0 Campaign of Mission YUVA, and to sensitize and motivate students to pursue innovation, entrepreneurship, Department of Information Technology (DIT), Central University of Kashmir (CUK), organised a Hackathon Awareness Camp in which 100 students participated.
The camp provided an opportunity to the students to understand the objectives of the Mission YUVA Hackathon and explore how innovative ideas can be transformed into practical, sustainable and employment-generating ventures.
The programme was attended by Ms. Beenish Wani, AD Employment; Ms. Saima, CCO; Mr. Salim Rashid, SDBU Lead; Mr. Gowhar, BHD Lead; and Mr. Farzan Amin, SBDU Coordinator, whose interaction with the students provided valuable insights into the opportunities available through Mission YUVA and the Hackathon initiative. Dr. Javed Ahmad and Dr. Zahoor Ahmad were also present.
An important highlight of the camp was the interactive idea-generation and brainstorming session, where students were encouraged to observe challenges in their surroundings, identify potential areas of intervention, and develop innovative solutions based on local needs and resources. The students came forward with several promising ideas, particularly in the areas of agricultural innovation, strengthening and promotion of the artisan sector, and Shikara-based tourism experiences.
The programme was held under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, whose encouragement towards student innovation and entrepreneurship added significance to the initiative. The organizers thanked Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool and Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, for their encouragement in facilitating student-centric initiatives at the University.
The session was moderated by Asst Prof. Dr Yash Paul, who encouraged students to actively engage in the idea-generation and brainstorming process.

CUKashmir, ICSSR holds seminar of ‘GST Reforms 2.0: Sectoral Growth Prospects and Challenges’
Ganderbal, Aug 19: Department of Commerce, School of Business Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, began a two-day national seminar on “GST Reforms 2.0: Sectoral Growth Prospects and Challenges”, at the Tulmulla campus here Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, said the introduction of GST represented a significant transformation of India’s indirect tax system, while the subsequent reforms were aimed at addressing emerging challenges and making the system more responsive to the needs of citizens and businesses. He called for a balanced approach in which taxation supports economic activity while encouraging environmental consciousness, social responsibility and responsible consumption. Prof. A Ravinder Nath highlighted the importance of examining GST reforms from the perspective of different income groups and sectors, particularly agriculture, manufacturing and services. CUKashmir VC expressed hope that the deliberations would result in substantive recommendations capable of contributing to policy discourse and could eventually be placed before the appropriate authorities, including the GST Council.
Vice-Chancellor, Ravenshaw University, Prof. (Dr.) Arka Das Mohapatra, who was the chief guest on the occasion, appreciated CUKashmir for creating a platform where academic knowledge, policy experience and field-level perspectives could converge. He noted that taxation ultimately affects the everyday lives of citizens and, therefore, the success of tax reform should be assessed not merely by the sophistication of its structure but by whether its benefits reach ordinary people. Prof. Mohapatra called for greater attention to affordability, quality of services, environmental responsibility and socially conscious taxation. He suggested that taxation policies could encourage environmentally responsible manufacturing and healthier consumption patterns, while ensuring that essential goods remain affordable for economically vulnerable sections of society.
Additional Commissioner, Sales Tax, J&K, Mr. Parvez Ahmed Raina, explained the practical dimensions of implementing GST Reforms 2.0. He identified three key features of the reform process—simpler rate architecture, sectoral rationalisation and a new phase of compliance. Mr. Raina said that while the rationalisation of rates could enhance affordability and purchasing power, its implementation also presented challenges relating to rate transitions, classification, input tax credit (ITC), refunds and registration. He emphasized that tax administration had to respond to these challenges through technological intervention, analytical tools and stronger monitoring mechanisms.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, said that GST has evolved into a significant component of India's economic architecture and that the reforms under GST 2.0 needed to be assessed not merely as a rate-rationalisation exercise but in terms of their wider impact on economic growth, consumption, businesses and households. He noted that the reform seeks to reduce the cost burden on households and businesses, streamline compliance and unlock growth opportunities across sectors. He stressed that awareness and dissemination of information among citizens, businesses and other stakeholders would be critical to the successful implementation of any major economic reform.
Dean, School of Business Studies, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, observed that GST was conceived with the objective of creating a unified national market and simplifying the complex indirect taxation structure that had previously confronted businesses with multiple taxes and compliance requirements. He noted that GST 2.0 sought to address some of the limitations that had emerged during the implementation of the first phase.
Head, Deptt of Commerce and seminar Convenor, Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din Shah, said the seminar was conceived as a platform to critically examine the immediate and emerging implications of GST Reforms 2.0 through a research-oriented and interdisciplinary approach. He said the seminar would provide an opportunity to assess the impact of GST 2.0 on key sectors and generate research-based insights and recommendations. “Many research papers were received for the seminar and subjected to a rigorous selection process, with selected papers being presented during the technical sessions,” he added.

CUKashmir organizes blood donation camp
Ganderbal, Aug 19: Under the theme “Blood Donation: A Contribution to the Nation” (Raktdaan – Desh Ke Naam), Health Centre and Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), in collaboration with the Blood Bank department of the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, organised a one-day blood donation camp at Tulmulla Campus
The camp was inaugurated by Registrar, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, in the presence of Dr. Rafia, In-charge of the camp from GMC, Dean Students’ Welfare, Dr. Jehir-ul-Islam, Medical Officers Dr. Sheeba Nazir and Dr. Abid Ahmad, Nursing Officer, Javeed Rather; Medical Attendant Mr. Javid Ali and other functionaries.
The initiative received an overwhelming response from the University community, with students, teaching and administrative staff coming forward to donate blood. More than 60 pints of blood were collected during the camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir lauded the participation of students and staff, describing voluntary blood donation as one of the noblest expressions of human compassion and social responsibility. He said the significance of donating blood lies in the fact that it offers hope and a chance at life to someone at a moment when it matters most. He encouraged the University community to remain actively engaged in initiatives that address the needs of society and translate the values of education into meaningful social action.
