The Story of Holika and Prahlad
Long ago, there lived a powerful demon king named **Hiranyakashipu**. He had performed severe penance and received powerful blessings that made him extremely difficult to defeat. Because of his immense power, he became proud and ordered everyone in his kingdom to worship him as the supreme lord.
But Hiranyakashipu's own son, **Prahlad**, was a devoted follower of **Lord Vishnu**. From childhood, Prahlad constantly chanted the name of Vishnu and refused to worship his father.
Hiranyakashipu became furious. He tried many ways to make Prahlad abandon his devotion, but Prahlad remained calm and continued praying to Lord Vishnu.
Finally, Hiranyakashipu decided to kill his own son.
He ordered his soldiers to attack Prahlad, but every attempt failed. Prahlad was thrown from a mountain, placed among poisonous snakes, and exposed to dangerous animals, yet he remained unharmed because of his unwavering faith in Lord Vishnu.
Then Hiranyakashipu called his sister **Holika**.
Holika had received a special boon that protected her from fire when she sat in flames under certain circumstances. Hiranyakashipu ordered her to sit inside a huge fire while holding Prahlad in her lap, believing that the fire would kill the boy.
A massive pyre was prepared.
Holika sat in the flames with Prahlad on her lap. The fire grew higher and higher. Everyone watched as the flames surrounded them.
But Prahlad did not become afraid.
He closed his eyes, folded his hands, and devotedly chanted the name of **Lord Vishnu**.
By the power of his devotion and divine protection, Prahlad remained completely unharmed.
Holika, however, was consumed by the flames.
Her boon could not save her because it was never meant to protect her when she used it for an evil purpose. Thus, **Holika was destroyed while Prahlad survived**.
The event became a symbol of the victory of **devotion, righteousness, and truth over arrogance and evil**.
Later, Hiranyakashipu's cruelty reached its peak. When he challenged Prahlad and asked where Vishnu was, Prahlad replied that Vishnu was present everywhere-even inside a pillar.
Hiranyakashipu struck the pillar in anger.
At that moment, **Lord Vishnu appeared as Narasimha**, a magnificent form that was half-man and half-lion. Narasimha defeated Hiranyakashipu and protected Prahlad.
The burning of Holika is remembered through **Holika Dahan**, celebrated before Holi. It reminds people that evil and arrogance may appear powerful, but ultimately **faith, truth, and righteousness prevail**.

**Never lose faith in truth, even when difficulties seem impossible to overcome. Pride and evil may be powerful for a while, but righteousness ultimately wins.**
This is why the story of Prahlad and Holika continues to be remembered as a powerful message of **faith, courage, and the victory of good over evil**.
