Learning Habitat Coming from a family of teachers, becoming a teacher seemed to be a natural path for Diksha Kharbanda.

A nurturing home-like environment that empowers children aged 2 - 8 to learn through play and exploration, cultivating their natural curiosity, creativity, and love for learning. After pursuing her MA in Education from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, she worked as a researcher, and preschool teacher, designed play-based and inquiry-based learning experiences, and conducted teacher trainings

. She has published research in a renowned international journal. She is a core team member of the global educators' community ‘Learning Pioneers.’ She draws inspiration from Reggio-Emilia, Waldorf, and Montessori approaches in early childhood education to design meaningful experiences for valuing and enhancing children’s lifelong learning skills.

Nature is full of things to notice.

Children remind us of that.

A flower, a bud, a fallen leaf, a new shape or colour. Things we might easily walk past can become a moment of fascination for a child.

Perhaps this is one of the gifts of learning alongside children: they invite us to look again.

It's something we hear from adults all the time.

But what if it wasn't because you weren't "a maths person"?
What if you simply learned to calculate before you truly understood numbers?

Long before children add, subtract, or memorise facts, they need to build number sense—the ability to recognise quantity, notice patterns, compare, estimate, and make sense of numbers.

At Learning Habitat, children explore mathematics through games, conversations, real materials, and meaningful challenges.

You'll find leaves, pebbles, sticks, dice, dot cards, and loose parts before you'll find worksheets.

Because our goal isn't a child who can answer quickly.
It's a child who is curious, confident, and unafraid to think.

A longer brush makes painting a whole new challenge.

When children use a tool like this, every stroke invites them to slow down, pay attention, and adjust their movement. They can't rely only on their fingers anymore. Instead, they coordinate their eyes, shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands to guide the brush exactly where they want it to go.

Whether a child is just beginning to build pre-writing skills or has already started writing letters, experiences like these continue to matter.

They strengthen:
• Shoulder and arm stability that supports handwriting
• Fine motor control and grip strength
• Eye-hand coordination
• Motor planning and body awareness
• Concentration and self-regulation

Writing begins long before a pencil ever touches paper. And even after children learn their letters, they continue developing the control, precision, and endurance that make writing feel natural and effortless.

Sometimes, a long brush is doing much more than creating a beautiful painting.

It is quietly preparing children for everything that comes next.

Two hours. No rushing between classes, no screens. Just your child, completely absorbed in something they chose — a story, a puzzle, an experiment, or a game they're creating themselves.

And while they're busy thinking, exploring and building, you get those same two hours back — for an errand, a quiet cup of tea, work, or simply a moment to breathe.

Here's how the week unfolds at our Afterschool Studio (Ages 3–7):

🎤 Curious Communicators (Mon & Wed)
Stories, books, conversations and joyful beginnings of reading.

🧩 Creative Solvers (Tue & Fri)
Puzzles, games and maths that feels more like play than worksheets.

🔍 Wonder Makers (Thu)
Building, experimenting, testing ideas and discovering how things work.

Each day has a different focus, so the week grows with the child instead of repeating itself.
