Every Onam, Kerala welcomes a king home.
Mahabali returns not to reclaim his kingdom, but to visit the people whose love has outlived his reign.
Kerala's tradition remembers his time as one of fairness, abundance and dignity, when no one was treated as lesser and prosperity was shared by all.
Perhaps that is why Mahabali remains so deeply loved. He is remembered not for the power he held, but for how his people lived.
As pookalams bloom and homes prepare for Onasadya, Kerala opens its doors once again.
Welcome home, Mahabali.
