Institute Innovation and Incubation Centre, NIT Durgapur is glad to announce the very first edition of INNOVATION CONTEST 2020, to identify the creative minds of our institute and cultivate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in NIT Durgapur. The contest will be open to all NIT Durgapur students and is intended to provide students with a 360-degree cycle of learning and understanding the process of innovation and start-up. It is designed in a way that each student will traverse a path from problem identification and ideation to building a business model and finally entering the phase of enterprise development in a time period of one year.
AWARD
1. Top 3 best innovative ideas will be awarded by our Director sir with certificate and trophy. [ Best innovative idea trophy, 2020 of our institute]
2. Students of top 25 ideas will be given in-house and external training, incubation support and industry back up to make prototype and commercialize.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS:
1. Proposal Round: Students can register themselves and submit a brief description of their project ideas through the following link:

2. Presentation and Shortlisting of Ideas For Prototype Formation: Once the ideas are submitted, shortlisted students will be called for a detailed presentation of the ideas followed by an interview in front of a panel of professors of the IIIC. The panel will evaluate the ideas and the top three ideas will be declared as the winner of the Innovation Contest, 2020 by IIIC, NIT Durgapur. Further, the top few ideas from this round will be eligible to receive incubation support from IIIC, NIT Durgapur to build viable prototype. The number of students eligible for this will depend on the discretion of the panel.
3. Prototype Formation: The IIIC, NIT Durgapur team will be in constant touch with the selected students and provide every possible assistance to them to build a viable prototype and further, commercialize their product. The students will receive infrastructure and space, funding, access to business support services and mentorship from the institute so that the idea is transformed into a successful product.
EVALUATION CRITERIA:
The ideas will be judged and shortlisted on the following criteria:
1. Whether the identified problem really exists in Society/Market/ Industry?
2. How specifically the proposed solution resolves the identified problem?
3. Given the resources available, how realistic is the student’s approach to achieve the solution in a time bound manner?
4. Level of acceptance of Solution/Features among target group
5. Potential of solution to Become profitable or financially viable

The contest is intended to provide Faculty with a 360-degree cycle of support in the process of innovation and start-up.

Toycathon 2021, organised by Innovation cell, Ministry of Education, a Hackathon to crowdsource innovative ideas for the Toys and Games based on Bharatiya history, civilization, ethos and culture, was launched on 5th January 2021.
Students of UG, PG, and doctoral courses are allowed to enter in teams of at least 3 and at most 6, with up to 2 mentors to guide them. They will participate under track 2 of Toycathon'21. This is a novel opportunity for the students to propose ideas to help India develop into a global hub for toys and games. Participants can win prizes worth up to 50 lakhs.
The last date for submission of ideas is 20th Jan 2021.
