(Active and Passive Voice)
* Active Voice: The subject of the sentence performs the action. It's direct and clear.
* Example: "The boy hits the ball." (The boy is doing the hitting.)
* Passive Voice: The subject receives the action. The focus is on the action itself, not who is doing it.
* Example: "The ball was hit by the boy." (The ball is receiving the hit.)
* How to Change:
* Rule 1: The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence.
* Rule 2: Use a form of the verb "to be" (e.g., is, am, are, was, were) and the past participle of the main verb.
* Rule 3: The subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence, often preceded by "by."
* Quick Practice:
1. Active: "She wrote a letter."
* Passive: "A letter was written by her."
2. Active: "They are building a house."
* Passive: "A house is being built by them."
Why and When to Use Each:
* Use active voice for most of your writing because it's strong and concise.
* Use passive voice when you don't know who did the action, or when the action is more important than the person who did it.
* Example: "The window was broken." (We don't know who broke it.)
