In KARBI

KARBI DISTRICT MOVEMENT - 23 June is the foundation day of the present KARBI ANGLONG AND WEST KARBI ANGLONG DISTRICT.

1. The movement started under the banner - ARLENG CHINGRUM AMEI around 1937. Sar. Sarsing Teron was the President and Sar Harsing Ingti as Secretary. Mr. Khorsing Terang (then MLA worked together with them).

2. The organization changed it's name in 1945 as MIKIR ASSOCIATION with the same people as President and Secretary and other eminent members also joined...

3. In 1946 the organization changed its name again as - KARBI ADORBAR, with the same president and Mr. Semson Sing Ingti was elected as Secretary and Sar. Harsing Ingti as Asst. Secretary.

In 1947 Mr. Song Bey was elected as President of the organization and on Feb 28, 1948 after the demise of the Secretary Mr. Semson Sing Ingti Sar Harsing Ingti, the Asst Secretary was re elected as Secretary of the organization.

The district was curved out after signing two agreements with the state government (1951 and 1952) by Mr. Song Bey and Mr. Harsing Ingti and Mr. Khorsing Terang as representative from government and the organization side.
Mr. Gopinath Bordoloi was the CM and Mr. Moti Bora was the Chairman of the Boundary Comission, he was also Finance minister of the state then.

Political time period

1. Mr. Semson Sing Ingti - almost 1 year 8 months.

2. Khorsing Terang - almost 18 years.

3. Sar Sarsing Teron - 9.5 + 1 + 5 = almost 15 .5 years

4. Sar. Harsing Ingti - 14 + 1+ 10 = almost 25 years.

5. Mr. Song Bey - almost 6 + 1 = almost 7 years.

The district was curved out as - UNITED MIKIR AND NORTH CACHAR HILLS in the year 1951 and got it's Council in 1952.
