Vadakethanikal Sebastian, the then provincial economer did the ground work in procuring the land. In the beginning building constructions were looked after by Fr. V.J. Sebastian. DBS Dimapur was opened on 19th March 1985, feast day of St. Joseph. It was a date decided upon by Fr. Mathew Pulingathil, the then provincial of the province of Dimapur and Fr. Sebastian, who entrusted the entire venture

to the care of St. Today we know for certain, St. Joseph has not let us down. There were 14 students in all and the first headmaster was Fr. Pottukulam Mathew and the first teacher was Mrs Sherly. The school was conducted in a thatched shed. Initially the school was looked after from the provincial house, located in Signal Basti. The foundation stone for the school building was blessed by late Bishop Abraham Alangimattathil SDB on 26th March, 1985. The stone was laid by Shri K.L. Chishi, Minister of Education and rural Development. Mathew Pulingathil, whose dream and desire it was to have a Don Bosco School in Dimapur, presided over the function. The constructions were finally completed in 1992. In 1986, admission to Class one was taken. In 1987, new admissions were taken to class three and four. On 5th March 1989, the school introduced computer studies into the curriculum. Don BoscoDimapur was a pioneer in the introduction of computer education in Nagaland. The first batch of matric students appeared in 1993. All passed and the school continued to grow in number as well as name and fame. In 2001, the school began Higher Secondary section with Science and Arts Streams – the first Catholic Higher Secondary school in Dimapur circle.
