Milon School Celebrates World Food Day 2025
Dimapur, October 16:
Milon School celebrated World Food Day 2025 under the global theme “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future.” In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this year’s focus was on learning, curating, and exploring Indigenous Foods — a step towards reviving and preserving local culinary knowledge.
The event was graced by Chef Aketoli Zhimoni, winner of Naga Chef – Season 1 and proprietor of Ethnic Table, who joined as the Special Guest of the day. Chef Aketoli conducted a master class on traditional Naga cuisine for students of Grades 7 and 8, introducing them to native ingredients, preparation methods, and the cultural significance of traditional recipes.
The highlight of the celebration was a cooking competition between Grade 7 and Grade 8 students. The teams showcased their creativity and understanding of indigenous flavors, with Grade 8 emerging as the winner for their signature dishes — Pork with Bamboo Shoot and Machihan.
The day also marked the launch of the “Knowledge Keepers Award,” an initiative to recognize students who have shown exceptional interest in documenting traditional ingredients and recipes. Six students, Christy Lotha Grade -4, Darius Sh*tiri Grade -6, Lumchilo Kikon Grade -5, Janbenthing Odyuo Grade -3, Asongla Imsong Grade -3, Orenvungi Kikon Grade -1, were honoured as Knowledge Keepers of Indigenous Foods for their outstanding contributions.
The celebration reflected Milon School’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and hands-on learning experiences that connect students to their roots while promoting a shared vision for a better food future.
