World Environment Day Celebration at Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya

The NCC Unit and NSS Unit of Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya are organizing a Plantation Drive on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5 June 2026 at the college campus. The event aims to promote environmental awareness, sustainability, and collective responsibility towards a greener future. Students, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and NCC cadets will participate in tree plantation activities under the theme "Plant Today, Breathe Tomorrow."

The department of Community Science, Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya visited Mrinaljyoti Rehabilitation Centre, Digboi on 21st May 2026 with the objective of gaining practical knowledge about rehabilitation services, special education, and community-based support systems for persons with disabilities. The 4th Semester (Honours) students visited the centre along with the faculty members Dr. Smita Rani Saikia, MS. Ankita Saikia and Dr. Kalyani konch, and observed the educational methods provided to the differently abled children’s. The students visited classrooms where children with different disabilities were being taught through special educational methods and learning materials. The visit also inspired students to develop empathy, social responsibility, and a positive attitude towards inclusive development. The visit provided the students with an opportunity to understand the functioning of a rehabilitation centre and observe the various therapeutic and educational services offered to children with special needs.

REPORT ON TWO-DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME ON ORGANIC FARMING

A two-day training programme on “Organic Farming” was conducted on 11th and 12th May 2026 under the add-on course titled “Rural Development with Indian Perspective.” The programme was organized by the Department of Economics in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Digboi. A total of 36 students enrolled in the add-on course actively participated in the programme.The training programme aimed to create awareness among students about sustainable agricultural practices and the role of organic farming in rural development.

The Department of History, Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya successfully organised a Students’ Seminar on “History of Digboi” on 09 May 2026. Students of the 6th Semester presented research papers on various aspects of Digboi’s historical heritage, including AOD Hospital, railway, War Cemetery, Centenary Museum, golf course, Digboi market, and more.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjita Chetia, Principal, DMM. The keynote address and technical session were conducted by Dr. Bipul Chaudhury, Associate Professor & HoD, Department of History, Dibrugarh University, whose scholarly insights greatly benefited the students.

The programme provided an excellent platform for promoting research aptitude, presentation skills, and awareness of local history among students.

VISIT TO RUPANTAR GROWTH CENTRE, DULIAJAN

The students of B.A. 6th Semester (Honors) , Department of community Science, Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya visited “Rupantar Growth Centre in Duliajan on 26th March, 2026 . The major objectives of the visit was to aware the students about Craft and handloom sector. The centre established in the year 1984 has been upgraded into a Centre of Excellence in the year 2021-22 with the objective of implementing innovative interventions towards socio-economic empowerment of rural women belonging to OIL's operational districts while also promoting indigenous crafts and handlooms of Assam. In the centre emphasis shall be given on incorporating value added production along with entrepreneurship education. Teacher in-charge Dr. Smita Rani Saikia, Ms. Ankita Saikia and Dr. Kalyani Konch, along with 27 number of students has visited the handloom centre. The aim of the visit was to observe the infrastructure of the centre, to study various types of loom and their functions, the product development and the employees details.
