Renowned Odissi exponent Smt. Swapnokalpa Dasgupta, accompanied live by Dr. Sarmistha Chattopadhyay on vocals, Shri G. Ramprasad on the mardala, and Shri Vaibhav Mankad on the harmonium.

The event aimed to introduce students to the richness of Indian classical dance and promote appreciation for our cultural heritage.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Rajee Konwar, Chairperson, S**C MACAY, Dibrugarh Chapter, who formally inaugurated the event.

In her brief address, she emphasized S**C MACAY’s vision of connecting youth with India’s classical arts and thanked the school for fostering such cultural initiatives. The courtyard was filled with students, parents, teachers, and art enthusiasts who gathered to witness the evening’s performance.

Smt. Swapnokalpa Dasgupta began by interacting with the students, instantly establishing a warm rapport. She narrated the history of Odissi Dance, tracing its origins from the temples of Odisha, and explained key concepts from the Natyashastra.

Her engaging explanation of mudras, abhinaya, and the spiritual essence of Odissi helped the young audience understand the depth and discipline behind the art form before the recital began.

The dance performance was mesmerizing. The artist’s powerful _abhinaya_ and evocative facial expressions, complemented by the melodic support of the accompanying artists, held the audience spellbound.

One of the most striking pieces was her depiction of Maa Kaali, where she portrayed the goddess’s fierce grace and compassion with remarkable intensity and precision.

The synergy between dance, vocal, mardala, and flute created a profound aesthetic experience.

In the conclusion, Smt. Dasgupta delighted the audience by gracefully moving to the beats of Bihu music, beautifully blending classical and folk traditions.

This thoughtful gesture was met with resounding applause from the entire audience. The programme left an indelible impression on the students, deepening their respect for Indian classical arts and fulfilling S**C MACAY’s mission of cultural enrichment.
