GRASSROOTS: The Alumni Wall Magazine of the Department of English, Khowang College, was unveiled today by the Principal of Khowang College. It is the third edition of the Wall Magazine and the editors are Tadusmriti Gogoi (Batch 2019-22) and Niraj Gogoi (Batch 2021-24). The Principal praised the students for their creativity and hardwork. The Vice Principal also congratulated the students and commented on how they have maintained the continuity of the annual Alumni wall magazine of the Department. The faculties of the Department of English along with the other faculties of the various departments of the College, the alumni students as well as the 4th semester students of the Department were also present at the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the editors or the Magazine.

The Department of English organized "Bon Voyage", 2025, the Department Farewell for the 6th Semester students. The 2nd and 4th Semester students of the Department welcomed their seniors with great enthusiasm. The event began with the felicitation of Dr. Trailokya Dehingia, Principal, Khowang College, Dipali Saikia, Vice Principal, Khowang College and Biju Chetia, Head, Department of English, Khowang College by the Semester students of the Department. Dr. Sachidanandra Saikia, Head, Department of Assamese, along with Dipa Majumelia and Rajkamal Gogoi, Assistant Professors (Temp), Department of Geography were also present at the event. The Principal addressed the students and spoke a few words of wisdom, advising them to be sincere in whatever career they pursue in the future. It was followed by a few words by the Vice Principal, Head of the Department and the other faculties of the Department of English- Kakoli Bonya Gogoi, Daisy Priya Gogoi and Sneha Roy. Dipa Majumelia also spoke to the students, sharing her own past experience as a student and wished them a bright future. All the nine students of 6th Semester were gifted a memento, a handmade bouquet and a group photo by the Department. The 6th semester students also showed their gratefulness to the Department with a gift. The Department also gifted a self-portrait to the Vice-Principal since she would be retiring this year, sketched by Binita Banerjee, 4th Semester. The juniors also arranged a personalized sash for each of them where a special title was provided, thereby making the 6th Semester students feel special. Next, the seniors spoke out their hearts on their last day, making everyone nostalgic and emotional. The juniors also took the stage to voice out how much they would miss their seniors and wished them good luck for every future challenge they face. A video compilation was also made by the juniors for their seniors which everyone enjoyed while having the lunch provided. The event ended with a group photo to be remembered forever.

The Department of English, Khowang College, organized "Basanta Utsav, 2025" today on 11/04/2025. The Department organises this celebration each year to welcome the upcoming Bohag Bihu and both the students and the faculty enjoy a day filled with fun, food, songs, dance and merriment. "Euphoria", a hand magazine of the Department of English, was inaugurated today at the hands of Dr. Trailokya Dehingia, Principal, Khowang College. He also spoke in praise of the creativity and hardwork that went into the creation of the Hand magazine and congratulated the students for their beautiful creation. The Vice Principal, Dipali Saikia, also appreciated the magazine and wished the students would continue bringing out such innovative works. Egg fights were also held to make the event more entertaining. An antakshari competition was also held between the teachers and the students which further boosted the excitement in the event.

ART AND CRAFT EXHIBITION
11/02/2025 – 12/02/2025
The Department of English, under the banner of KALAGURU house, common house of the Department of English and Department of Assamese organized an Art and Craft Exhibition where students and young entrepreneurs were given the chance to showcase their hand made art and crafts. The event was inaugurated by Jintu Borah, Commissioner of Khowang Co-district. It was an exhibition-cum-sale event as anyone could buy these handmade good at a reasonable price. Lucky Borah, 4th Semester, Department of English, Khowang College, Binita Banerjee, 4th Semester, Department of English, Khowang College, Kabyashree Dehingia, 4th Semester, Department of Political Science, Khowang College, Dipkamal Boruah, Alumni, Khowang College, Debajani Deb, Alumni Khowang College were among the participants of this exhibition who amazed everyone with their beautiful paintings, handicrafts, hand-made earrings and jewellery sets, etc.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “TRADITIONAL ORAL CULTURE OF INDIA: RELEVANCE OF ITS STUDY IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES”

On 11th and 12th February, 2025, the Department of English and the Department of History, in collaboration with IQAC, Khowang College, organized an ICSSR sponsored National Seminar on “Traditional Oral Culture of India: Relevance of its Study in Contemporary times”. The Seminar had a total of 4 technical sessions with 41 paper presenters and more than 100 participants combining both online and offline mode from all over India. Dr. Sajmina Akhtar and Kakoli Bonya Gogoi were the Convenors of the Seminar. Dr. Sajmina Akhtar, Associate Professor, Department of History, Khowang College, welcomed everyone to the event and appreciated their noble presence in the National Seminar. The inaugural session on 11th February began at 9.30 am at the Conference Hall of Khowang College with the lighting of the lamp by Bipin Chandra Sharma, President of the GB of Khowang College. It was followed by the felicitation of the members on the dais - Professor Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University; Professor Girin Phukan, Retired Professor of the Department of Political Science, Dibrugarh University and currently the Director of the Institute of Tai Studies and Research, Moran, Assam; Dr. Manas Ray, Former Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Former Head, Department of Anthropology and Mass Communication, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan; Dr. Trailokya Dehingia, Principal, Khowang College; Bipin Chandra Sharma, President, Khowang College. Resource persons Professor Mridul Bordoloi, Head, Department of English, Dibrugarh University, Dr. Mandakini Baruah, Assistant Professor, Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University and Professor Rajib Handique, Department of History, Dibrugarh University as well as the dignitaries - Commissioner of Khowang Co-district, Jintu Borah, Dr. Tarun Gogoi, Principal, Moran Mahila Mahavidyalaya and Mrs. Iveelata Chutia, Principal, Moran Commerce College, were also felicitated at the event. The inaugural session was chaired by esteemed Professor Girin Phukan. Dr. Trailokya Dehingia gave the welcome address where he welcomed formally everyone. The Book of Abstracts was formally inaugurated in the event by Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University. Guest of eminence, Professor Jiten Hazarika, gave the inaugural speech and spoke on how relevant the chosen theme is in recent times. It was followed by the keynote address by the distinguished guest, Dr. Manas Ray. His knowledge and expertise on the chosen theme for the Seminar greatly enlightened the audience. Respected Professor Girin Phukan then spoke about how Indian history and oral culture are interconnected and explained with illustrations how oral history is the means of preservation of age-old customs, traditions and even beliefs. There was a total of 4 technical sessions, out of which 2 sessions were held on 11th February, one in online mode and one offline, both taking place simultaneously. The chairperson for the offline session was Dr. Trailokya Dehingia and Professor Rajib Handique was the resource person. Dr. Mandakini Boruah, Assistant Professor, Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University acted as the chairperson for the online session and Professor Mridul Bordoloi, Head, Department of English, Dibrugarh University was the resource person. Technical session 3 on 12th February was chaired by Dr. Trailokya Dehingia and Dr. Binud Chandra Borah, Registrar, Majuli University of Culture acted as the resource person. The online technical session on 12th February was chaired by Dr. Jitu Borah, Assistant Professor, Department of Assamese, Dibrugarh University and Dr. Bikash Deka, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Dibrugarh University acted as the resource person. The two offline sessions had a total of 19 participants, while the two online sessions had a total of 21 participants. The Valedictory session was held on 12th February, 2025. Dr. Trailokya Dehingia chaired the event and addressed everyone present. Daisy Priya Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Department of English delivered the Rapporteur’s report for the 2-day National Seminar on “Traditional Oral Culture of India: Relevance of its Study in Contemporary Times”. Dr. Bikash Deka then spoke to the audience and enlightened them on the relevance of oral literature. Dr. Jitu Borah also shared a few words of wisdom in the meeting. It was followed by the distribution of the certificates to the participants by the dignitaries on the dais. The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Kakoli Bonya Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Department of English.

The Department of English, through the common house - KALAGURU, observed the "Bhaxa Gaurav Saptah" from 04/11/2024 to 09/11/2024. A spelling contest was organized on the first day, followed by a special talk programme on the relevance of Assamese as a Classical Language the next day. The speaker was Dr. Pallavi Handique, Department of Assamese, Khowang College. Jintu Bora, the Commissioner of Khowang Co-District was also present at the event. In the following days, recitation competitions, essay competition and extempore speech competition were also held as a part of the celebration.

The 13th edition of "THE DAWN", the Annual Departmental Wall Magazine of the Department of English, Khowang College, was inaugurated on this date by Dr. Trailokya Dehingia, Principal, Khowang College. The theme chosen was Neo-literature and the editors of the Wall Magazine are Pournavmoy Gogoi, 5th semester and Sristi Chetia, 3rd semester. Using cane, the students created miniature 'kula's and a 'dola' which held their articles and further embellished the theme of the Wall Magazine, making it unique and aesthetic.
