The Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University, successfully organized the 36ᵗʰ CRSI National Symposium in Chemistry and CRSI–RSC Lectures from 5–7 February 2026, under the aegis of the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) and in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London. This prestigious international academic event brought together nearly 300 participants, including eminent scientists, CRSI awardees, faculty members, and research scholars from India and abroad. A total of 17 CRSI award lectures, including contributions from international awardees, highlighted cutting-edge developments in chemical sciences. The symposium featured lectures by leading researchers from India, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Europe. An active poster presentation programme, comprising approximately 170 posters, provided a vibrant platform for young researchers. Thirty-three Best Poster Awards, sponsored by RSC, American Chemical Society (ACS), Dibrugarh University, and CRSI, encouraged student participation and research excellence.
The symposium was generously supported by -India, CSIR, India, -BRNS, DRDO, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Oil India Limited, CRSI, RSC, and Dibrugarh University. Overall, the event significantly strengthened the University’s research visibility, fostered national and international collaborations, and reinforced its standing as a growing centre of excellence in chemical sciences.

The Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University, successfully organized a week-long celebration of National Chemistry Week 2025 from 28th October to 1st November 2025, with the theme “The Hidden Life of Spices,” in alignment with the nationwide observance. Dr. Jiban Saikia and Dr. Prashurya Pritam Mudoi were the joint coordinators of the program. The inaugural programme on 28th October was attended by faculty members, research scholars, and students of the Department and allied departments. The event began with a Welcome Address by Prof. Bolin Chetia, who emphasized the significance of celebrating chemistry in everyday life. Dr. Jiban Saikia, Joint Coordinator of the event, outlined the week’s upcoming programmes, including outreach activities in various schools across Dibrugarh District. Prof. Pankaj Das delivered a special talk on the importance of scientific publication and the central role of chemistry in advancing science. The highlight of the inaugural session was an enlightening lecture by Dr. Prithviraj Khakhlary, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University, on Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs). Over the next two days, the faculty members and research scholars of the Department actively participated in outreach programmes, conducting science popularization activities in remote schools of Dibrugarh District. On 31st October, Dr. Nayanmoni Gogoi from the Department of Chemical Sciences, Tezpur University, delivered an engaging popular science talk as the invited resource person. The week-long celebration concluded on 1st November with a scientific poster competition for school students based on the Chemistry Week theme.

***Call for Abstracts & Registration Now Open***
Abstract Submissions are now open for the 36ᵗʰ CRSI National Symposium in Chemistry (CRSI-NSC-36) and the CRSI–RSC Symposium 2026, to be held from Thursday to Saturday, February 5–7, 2026. The event is being organized for the first time by Dibrugarh University, Assam, under the umbrella of the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI). Early slots are available for Ph.D. scholars, postdoctoral fellows, scientists, and faculty members interested in presenting posters. These slots are limited to 250 participants only, allotted strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.

Let’s come together to celebrate the pioneering spirit of chemistry amidst the natural beauty of Assam in Dibrugarh, a culturally vibrant region of India where science meets tradition and innovation.

With profound grief, the Department of Chemistry pays heartfelt condolences on the untimely demise of Zubeen Da, the heartthrob of Assam. His contribution to music and culture will remain immortal. We pray for eternal peace of his departed soul and strength to his loved ones in this moment of sorrow.

We are delighted to announce the awarding of the CDAA Ph.D. Research Fellowship to Mr. Himanku Boruah, Research Scholar of our department. This prestigious fellowship, instituted by the Chemistry Department Alumni Association (CDAA), marks a significant milestone in promoting research excellence and academic innovation.

The award was presented on 24th June 2025 by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jiten Hazarika during the CDAA Annual General Meeting at the Indira Miri Conference Hall. The fellowship, supported by a newly established alumni-contributed corpus fund, reflects the collective commitment of our alumni towards nurturing future researchers.

In his address, Prof. Hazarika applauded the CDAA for this noble initiative and encouraged similar efforts from other academic bodies. The occasion was graced by eminent personalities including:

The general meeting of the Chemistry Department Alumni Association (CDAA) which was supposed to be held on 8th February, 2025 could not be arranged due to Gunotsav-2025 and Panchayat elections. The meeting will now be held on 24th June 2025 at 10 am at the Department of Chemistry, DU with the following agenda:

2. Annual Report from the Secretary, CDAA
3. Inauguration of CDAA fellowship
4. Dissolution of present executive committee and Formation of new executive committee, CDAA

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025 (5 June), the Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University, in collaboration with Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT), NE Zone, organized a special outreach programme at Khamtighat High School, Dibrugarh, marking ACT’s 25 Years Celebration.
With the central theme “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution”, the event featured inspiring talks, interactive sessions, and a tree plantation drive. Faculty members, including Prof. Diganta Sarma, Dr. Surajit Konwer and Dr. Prashurya Pritam Mudoi, shared valuable insights on environmental responsibility, student values, and the dangers of plastic pollution.

A heartfelt thank you to Khamtighat High School for their warm hospitality and enthusiastic participation. Together, we sow the seeds for a greener and cleaner tomorrow.
