Congratulations on the Grant of Patent!

Congratulations to Mr. Shravan Konnur, Research Scholar, and Prof. Amarnath Hegde, Dean [Infrastructure, Planning & Support (IPS)] & Associate Professor, Civil & Infrastructure Engineering (CIE), on the grant of a patent for the invention entitled: “FRACTAL TEXTURED RHOMBOHEXAL MULTIGRID FOR IMPROVED MECHANICAL INTERLOCKING IN SOILS”

The invention developed a geogrid (a type of soil reinforcement) capable of providing efficient mechanical interlocking and multidirectional stress distribution together with enhanced soil-geogrid interfacial interaction through the incorporation of a multigrid aperture geometry and strategically distributed fractal surface textures along the multigrid ribs. The newly developed product has wider applications in geotechnical structures such as MSE walls, slopes, and embankments.

Prof Jayakumar KV, currently Senior Adjunct Professor and Advisor, IIT Dharwad,has been unanimously elected as the President of Wetlands International South Asia (WISA) for a term of 3 years. WISA is a respected not-for-profit organisation working on the conservation and sustainable management of wetlands across South Asia, and is part of the larger Wetlands International network — headquartered in the Netherlands, with regional and national offices spanning East Africa, Europe, Indonesia, Japan, Latin America & the Caribbean, Malaysia, the Philippines, the Sahel, South Asia, and West Africa, and work reaching over 100 countries worldwide.

A few things that make this especially special: A unanimous election reflects the deep trust and respect Prof K V Jayakumar commands among peers in the conservation community. A truly global network — from Latin America to Japan — working to protect one of the planet’s most vital ecosystems.

80th Independence Day Celebrations at IIT DHARWAD

IIT DHARWAD celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India on 15th August 2026 at the Central Learning Theatre (CLT) with a spirit of patriotism, unity, and national pride.

The celebrations commenced with the flag hoisting by PROF. VenkappayyA R dEsAi, Director, IIT DHARWAD, followed by the National Anthem.

Addressing the gathering, PROF. VenkappayyA R. dEsAi, Director, IIT DHARWAD, extended his best wishes on the occasion and shared several messages with the campus community. He highlighted the inauguration of the Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT DHARWAD batch on the IIT DHARWAD campus and encouraged everyone to promote Sanskrit in everyday life by using simple greetings such as “Suprabhat” and “Dhanyawad.” He also informed the gathering about Bharatiya Traditional Knowledge Systems (BTKS 2026), scheduled for September 2026, and highlighted the importance of the Indian Knowledge System. Speaking about VRIKSHA NAKSHATRA, he explained the significance of trees, planetary positions, and their importance to the environment. Addressing the Kendriya Vidyalaya teachers and parents, he encouraged them to nurture good habits among children and foster a culture of cleanliness from an early age.

The programme featured inspiring speeches by IIT DHARWAD and Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT DHARWAD students in Kannada, Hindi and English, followed by patriotic songs by the Rhapsody Club, IIT DHARWAD.

The celebrations also included a fancy dress presentation by Class 1 and Class 2 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya IITDHARWAD, an individual classical dance performance and vibrant patriotic and group dance performances by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT DHARWAD and the Sapphire Club, IIT DHARWAD.

The celebrations brought together IIT DHARWAD faculty members, students and staff, along with Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT DHARWAD teachers, children and parents, in a memorable tribute to the spirit of freedom and the nation.

IIT DHARWAD hosted an informative session on “Study, Research and Career Opportunities in Germany” in association with the German Consulate, Bengaluru and DAAD Information Point, Bengaluru.

PRof. Dhiraj V. Patil, Dean [Outreach, Alumni & Corporate Relations (ACR)], and Head [Centre of Excellence in Affordable & Clean Energy (CoE-ACE)], welcomed and introduced the guest speakers.

Ms. Suganya Tamalapadi, Regional Officer, DAAD Information Point, Bengaluru, shared insights on higher studies in Germany, PhD opportunities, scholarships, research grants, finding research hosts, proposal writing, funding, visa procedures and career opportunities.

Dr. Manjula Mundakana, Senior Advisor, German Consulate, Bengaluru, spoke about visa processes, studying and working in Germany, TU9 and Excellence Clusters, student employment opportunities, engineering career pathways, research careers and PhD opportunities.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A interaction, with students seeking guidance on study, research and career pathways in Germany.

Mr. Gani Venkatesh from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, represented FutureGLab, IIT dhArwAD, at the Doctoral Colloquium 2026 hosted by Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Kurnool on 29th July 2026.

His research presentation was awarded the 3rd Prize, along with a cash award of ₹10,000, in recognition of the quality and impact of his work.

Mr. Gani Venkatesh expressed his sincere gratitude to his supervisor, PRof. Koteswararao Kondepu, for his constant guidance and support, and to the Head of the Department, Prof. Ramchandra Phawade, for encouraging participation in such academic and research forums.
