Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya A School With A Difference
💫 Empowering Rural Children ✊
📚 Academics and Performing Arts 🎼 There are no fees at all !

Founded in November 2002, KSV is located in a quiet valley near the city of Dharwad in Karnataka, South India. Established on three acres of land a short distance from Kalkeri Village, the school consists of simple buildings made from traditional materials. In this peaceful setting, the children enjoy the tranquillity necessary for their academic studies, music practice and performing arts activit

ies. KSV provides education in academic subjects, Hindustani Classical Music, Bharatanatayam Dance and Drama. In addition, food, accommodation and healthcare are all provided free of cost. KSV is both traditional and modern in its approach. Tradition is taught through the ancient disciplines of the Indian classical arts. The modern educational programme is based on the Karnataka State syllabus. Computer studies are also an important element to prepare the students to meet the demands of today’s rapidly evolving world. The origins of KSV were basic but clear: through the medium of traditional Indian music combined with regular schooling, the lives of disadvantaged children could be transformed. For many of these children no formal education was available, so the first step was to set up a favourable learning environment for them. Teaching and guidance provided by a team of dedicated professionals then gave these children the ability and confidence to stand on their own two feet, ensuring that in time they will become creative and resourceful citizens of the world.

|| Guru Pranaam Paran ||
A rhythmic composition / sacred verse of reverent bow (Pranaam) dedicated to the Guru. Guru Paran is a beautiful, devotional rhythmic composition where rhythmic syllables merge with stuti/praise.

|| Ohm sri guru Sharanam, Sharanam Sharanam ||
Meaning: I take absolute refuge at the holy feet of the revered Master.
|| Hastakaushalya nidhiye Namaha ||
Meaning: Salutations to the one who is a treasure chest (Nidhi) of mastery and skill of the hands (Hasta-kaushalya)
|| Taala pravinyaya Guruve Namah ||
Meaning: Salutations to the Master who possesses deep expertise, proficiency, and mastery (Pravinya) over rhythm and meter (Taala).
|| Mahavaadaka ||
Meaning: The Great Instrumentalist / Master Musician.
|| Margadarshaka ||
Meaning: The Torchbearer / Path-finder / Guide who shows the right way.
|| Jnanadayaka ||
Meaning: The Bestower of Divine Knowledge and Wisdom.
|| Pranaam Pranaam Dha ||
The paran ends with a traditional rhythmic strike (Dha), blending the spiritual act of bowing (Pranaam) directly into the powerful, grounding rhythmic syllable (bol) of Indian classical music.

This verse is a deeply respectful salute to a master musician and teacher. It praises the Guru not only as an artist of supreme skill and rhythm (mastery of hands and Taala), but also as a spiritual guide who imparts knowledge and lights the pupil’s path in life and music.
