Kalsang Tharchin’s Peace Walk from Dharamshala to Ladakh

Kalsang Tharchin-la undertook a long-distance peace walk from Dharamshala to Ladakh to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the Tibetan language, culture, and traditions.

Walking for weeks across challenging terrain, his journey was a call for unity and a reminder of the responsibility to protect and pass on Tibetan identity to future generations.

This short documentary follows his journey, the people he met along the way, and the message behind his walk.

A journey of courage, unity, and hope for the preservation of Tibet’s language, culture, and heritage.

“If I use machines, the tradition of hand carving will die,” says Tak Tsering, a master stone carver.
Stone carving runs deep in Tak Tsering’s family. His grandfather was a renowned stone-carving master, and later, his father learned the craft from him. After coming into exile, his father continued the tradition and passed it on to Tak.
Today, Tak is concerned that the tradition of hand carving could disappear if machines replace the traditional craft. Although machines are faster and more convenient, he continues to carve by hand to preserve the skill and tradition passed down through generations.
Currently, there are only two well-known traditional stone-carving masters in Leh.
