The Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo Translator Program (LRZTP) is a 4-year interpretation program offered by the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT). The program consists of two years of study in Dharamsala, India, followed by two years of onsite training at a center as an apprentice interpreter under a Tibetan teacher. LRZTP1 started in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, in 1996, and since then close to 30 students have successfully completed the four-year program. LRZTP now offers a comprehensive online Tibetan language program as well as individual tutoring.

Great Buddhist translator Rinchen Zangpo (958-1055) came from Western Tibet to Ladakh to spread Buddhism and is said to have established there 108 monasteries. One of the holiest places associated with Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo is Alchi with its beautiful complex of Ladakhi-Kashmiri style temples. There also Rinchen Zangpo is said to have stuck in the ground his walking stick. In the spot where it happened a tree grew. This type of tree cannot be found anywhere else in the whole Ladakh. And it grows there to this day. If you would like to study to become a lotsawa, we invite you to join our school for private classes (online or in Dharamshala) or the next two-year course due to begin in 2028. For all the currently available options please visit our website lrztp.org.

A long Tibetan language online course has come to an end. Graduates will receive their certificates for attending the classes from 2021 to 2026 by post. But one was able to personally receive it yesterday at LRZTP. She was a recipient of a scholarship for Indian students and is just completing an extra week of free-of-charge personal classes at the school. All the graduates of the online course who happen to be at some point in Dharamsala can also use that opportunity and have a one-week free conversation classes with our teachers. Meanwhile big congratulations to all the graduates!
