The FIPI IIT (ISM) Student Chapter proudly reflects on its enriching participation at India Energy Week 2026, held at the ONGC Advanced Training Institute, Goa, from 27-30 January 2026. The prestigious event brought together global energy leaders, policymakers, researchers, and industry professionals to deliberate on the evolving landscape of the energy sector.
Representing the Student Chapter, Mr. Sachin Dhakad (President), Mr. Anurag Jha (Vice President), and Ms. Anjali Dubey actively participated in the technical sessions and industry interactions. The delegation was guided and accompanied by Prof. Archana Balikram (FIPI Coordinator), Prof. Tarun Kumar Naiya, Prof. Vikas Mahto (Head of the Department), and Prof. Keka Ojha. Prof. Keka Ojha attended through nomination from ONGC, while Prof. Tarun Kumar Naiya and Prof. Vikas Mahto participated as nominees from the institution.
The technical sessions were highly insightful and enriching, focusing on advancements in sustainable energy technologies, petroleum system modelling, green energy transitions, and indigenous innovations within the oil and gas sector. The deliberations provided valuable exposure to emerging research, industry perspectives, and policy insights, significantly contributing to the academic and professional development of the student members.
The experience strengthened the chapter's understanding of contemporary energy challenges and opportunities, while reinforcing the importance of industry-academia collaboration. The Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI) is an apex Society of entities in the hydrocarbon sector and acts as an industry interface with Government and regulatory authorities. It helps in resolution of issues and evolution of policies and regulations. It represents the industry on Government bodies, committees and task forces and has been submitting recommendations to the Government on behalf of the industry on various issues.
It aims to be the most effective and influential voice of the oil & gas industry to facilitate its development as a globally competitive industry in India that enjoys the respect and trust of the society. Several Government policy initiatives have their genesis in its reports and publications, some of which are quoted in documents like the Integrated Energy Policy.
IIT ISM Student chapter of the FIPI Society was established in 2007. It divvy’s the areas of growth in the fields of exploration, drilling, production and processing, refining, pipeline, transportation, petrochemicals, natural gas, LNG, petroleum trade, economics, legal human resource development, marketing, research and development, information The chapter is the only of its kind as it holds the largest diversity in student membership. Students from the Petroleum engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Mineral Engineering, Geology and Geophysics are an integral part of it.
