Dhamangaon Education Society has maintained its tradition of opening the need based institutions of education at appropriate levels so that the clientele could derive their timely benefits. Till 1983, the Society did not have its own and separate technical or engineering institution. This was the time when the necessity of technical education along with the conventional courses was felt. Moreover,
the State Government was liberal in its policy to grant blanket permission to the private managements to start Polytechnics or Engineering Colleges on permanently no grant basis. The intention of the policy makers behind this revolutionary decision was to ensure the industrial prosperity of the state vis-a-vis expand the opportunities of employment generation. aaIn the backdrop of the events referred above and in keeping with its tradition, the Society after duly working on the proposal started Dhamangaon Polytechnic in 1983. In the beginning, the institute started imparting instructions in Construction Technology, Production Technology and Industrial Electronics, each having been sanctioned the intake capacity of 60 students. The classes were conducted in the building of Adarsha Mahavidyalaya. In the mean time, the construction work of new building was started as per the norms of A.I.C.T.E. under the able guidance of Shri Alsidasji Rathi, then Secretary of D.E.S. and the Polytechnic moved to its own destination in the year 1985. In the same year, Two Year Diploma Course in Animal Husbandry and Dairy Science was started. In the year 1986-87, one more discipline known as Computer technology was added. In the establishment of Dhamangaon Polytechnic and its subsequent development, the then President of Dhamangaon Education Society, Shri Laxminarayanji Agrawal had his prominent contribution. He was all the while strenuously exerting for its continued development. However, his sudden and untimely death on 9TH June 1988 created a great void in the life of the Society. In his death, the Society lost a true visionary and an architect of institutions of D.E.S. After the sad demise of its prime mover, the Society renamed its Polytechnic as Laxminarayan Agrawal Memorial Institute of Technology with a view to cherish his fond memories. Laxminarayan Agrawal Memorial Institute of Technology is spread over an area of 5 Acre 28 G of land and is 2 Km. away from the hustle and bustle of the town. It has a spacious playground for the students. The Institute is affiliated to M.S. Board of Technical Education, Mumbai and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and Government of Maharashtra. The Institute has competent faculty comprising 36 members led by Principal A. Bhuyar. The number of non-teaching employees is 29.
