Delhi gang-r**e survivor 'Damini' dies. I don't know who she is. She is not my relative or friend and I don't even know her real name. But I cried for her. We call India the largest democracy and a young girl can't travel at 9 PM in the national capital.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, "the day a woman can walk freely on the roads at night, that day we can say that India has achieved independence". When country men don't protect their women, that country will never come up. The term Super Power is not in military strength.. it is about how we treat, respect each other.
Damini, May your soul rest in peace and we keep you in our prayers.

Constructive suggestions: Pass the bill waiting in the Parliament on crimes against women. Increase the forensic abilities of the police drastically. Enhanced gender sensitization of Police. Introduction of gender issues in schools and martial arts for girls. Intense patrolling on roads. Care code for the girls through workshops. Fast-tracking of court for such crimes. Campaign in media 360 degrees against harasmnt!

On Dec 22, people acros India are protsting against r**e from 5pm. I urge all my friends to actively participate in it. Every movmnt mst ve a set of concrte visble dmands. Demand that MPs pass the pending bill on atrocities against women in the next session, that police organse sesions in every HS School n college on how to deal with harassment, n that govt sets up a special fst-track court for these. Share.
