This hadith is a powerful warning about knowledge without action. The Qur’an was not revealed to be read and then ignored — it was revealed to shape our lives. When Allah’s words are learned but not lived, and obligatory prayers are taken lightly, the heart slowly hardens. Accountability is real, and neglecting Salah and the Qur’an is not a small matter in the sight of Allah.
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
“And the Messenger will say, ‘My Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur’an as something abandoned.’”(Qur’an | Surah Al-Furqan 25:30)
And Allah ﷻ also says:
“So woe to those who pray, yet are heedless of their prayer.”(Qur’an | Surah Al-Ma’un 107:4–5)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The covenant between us and them is the prayer; whoever abandons it has disbelieved.”
(Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Hadith 2621 – Sahih)
These teachings remind us that true honor is not in knowing the Qur’an alone, but in submitting to it through action and protecting the prayers Allah has made obligatory. Knowledge itself is a proof — either in
our favor or against us.
May Allah make the Qur’an alive in our hearts, grant us consistency in Salah, and protect us from heedlessness and neglect.
Aameen.
