In data recovery there are three phases in the recovery process. Phase one is to examine the damaged secondary storage media to determine why the media failed.

Introduction:
Data recovery is art of salvaging data from damaged, corrupted, and inaccessible secondary storage media when it cannot be accessed normally. After determining the exact cause of the failure it is then possible to repair the media device to extract data from it. In the first stages it is necessary to determine the fai
lure of the drive broken down into two categories. One logical and two physical recovery work. Phase two is the repairing of the damaged media. This deals with working in a clean room environment to replace the broken parts inside the media storage device. Clean room environment in data recovery is mandatory so the damaged unit is not exposed to contaminations. The HDD has mechanical failure donor parts are used to read the media to extract the data from the device. Phase three recovery works with flash drives, SSD, NAND, jump drives and forms of digital media devices. These flash cards are used in all digital images recorded from camera, telephones, and camcorders. This phase of data recovery extract the digital dumps from memories cards and reconstructs the dumps to retrieve the images stored on the cards. The repair of Flash drives, SSD, and PCB is done in this phase. Setting up a Data Recovery Center
A data recovery centers needs to be broken up into individual work stations or tasks to handle the different stages of data recovery. There are three separate stations designed to handle all these tasks. One is first level recovery stations, second is clean room stations and three is Flash recovery and solder stations. Level 1 and Level 2 Recovery Stations:
* Problem determination; the first steps taken in data recovery.
* The work stations are designed with advanced tools capable of reading the service area of the HDD.
* The drive is analyzed in this stage to determine the extent of damage.
* The drive is tested with advanced data recovery tools that are specially designed for this purpose.
* The tools will start the damaged drive, read the SA, and check for head damage;
* During the testing stage the drive damage is due to a logical failure the HDD is cloned sector by sector to a new drive to repair the logical failure
* The drive is determined to have a head failure the drive is passed onto the Clean Room stations which will locate donor drive parts and swap out the heads. Once completed the drive is returned to this station to clone sector by sector to extract data from the damaged drive
* The drive is determined to have internal service area module damages this will be repaired using donor firmware modules and the advanced tools capable of repairing this damage. After repair of the service area damage the drive will be cloned sector by sector using specially designed tools to clone the drive.
* The HDD has PCB damage and can not be read or initialized. The drive is given to the solder stations to repair the PCB or find a donor board and move the ROM to the donor board. Once repaired and the drive can initialize the drive is given back to this station to determine if further damage exists in the service area. If the drive can initialize and data is present the drive is cloned sector by sector to a new drive. Work Stations:
1. Advanced Data Recovery tools used to determine and repair problems associated with the drive SA. The tools are used to test heads, read the service area, repair the service area, and work with the ROM on certain drives that are corrupted to rebuild the ROM to access the drive again. There will be 2 work stations set up for each tool used in this process.
2. Logical repair station: The logical repair stations has special software packages used in repairing the drive MBR, partition table and reading the file structure of the HDD. This station can handle all deleted data, lost data due to a virus, corrupted data reconstruction, and lost files and folders.
3. Two work stations for cloning the damaged HDD only. The two stations will have a special cloning tool used to clone damaged drives. Cloning of a damaged drive is very time consuming and necessary to have at least two work stations that are used only for cloning the damaged drives to a new hard drive. A total of 5 work stations will be needed for this area. The work stations will be manned by one technician specially trained in this area. The training of the technician will included first level problem determination of the damaged drive, repair of the internal service area, repair of the ROM using the modules in the SA to rebuild the damaged or corrupted ROM, logical recovery due to file damage, deletion, corruption, damaged MBR and partition tables. The cloning stations that will handle the cloning of the damaged drive sector by sector to a new drive and data extracted from the clone. This person will handle the extraction of data from the HDD after it has been cloned to a new drive.
