Blockchain की सबसे बड़ी ताकत है इसकी immutability — यानी एक बार data दर्ज हो गया तो उसे बदला नहीं जा सकता। यह सच है, लेकिन सिर्फ तब तक जब तक network की majority ईमानदार बनी रहे। अगर किसी एंटिटी के पास नेटवर्क की 51% कम्प्यूटिंग पॉवर आ जाए, तो वह blockchain के नियमों को पलट सकती है। इसे 51% Attack कहा जाता है।।बड़े networks जैसे Bitcoin या Ethereum पर ऐसा हमला करना बेहद महंगा है, लेकिन छोटे blockchains पर यह कई बार हो चुका है।

आज के हैकर सिर्फ कंप्यूटर एक्सपर्ट नहीं हैं, वे साइकोलॉजिस्ट भी हैं।
वे लोगों को फँसाने के लिए social engineering का इस्तेमाल करते हैं। यानी user को ही अपनी key या credentials बताने पर मजबूर कर देना।
इसके अलावा, bridge protocols और cross-chain transactions भी नए जोखिम लेकर आए हैं। कई बड़े crypto heists इन्हीं bridges से जुड़े रहे हैं, जहाँ दो अलग blockchains को जोड़ने वाले सिस्टम को compromise किया गया।
