Zomi Students' Federation Expresses Grievances to Minister Nitin Gadkari

October 30, 2024 | 🔴🟡🟢

The Zomi Students' Federation, General Headquarters, has submitted a grievances letter to Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, expressing their dismay over a recent sanction letter dated October 8, 2024. The letter announced the approval of 57 road works exclusively only for Manipur valley districts under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).

In their letter, the Federation emphasized the lack of institutional support and alleged discrimination by the State, which has forced hill tribal of the State to repair roads at their own expense.

The Federation highlighted in their letter that since the CRIF is funded by road cess and excise duties on diesel and petrol, the proceeds should benefit all communities across the country. The Federation criticized the recent decision, stating that it undermines the fund's purpose by neglecting essential infrastructure development in the hill districts, which are in dire need of attention.
