Hello Dear Enthusiasts!

We are thrilled to present the next topic of our weekly series—“SciSCOPE”! 🔎📖

This week, we’re exploring the topic : Wormholes - Theoretical shortcuts through Spacetime.

Wormholes, predicted by Einstein’s General Relativity, are theoretical tunnels connecting distant points in spacetime. But can they exist? From exotic matter and quantum entanglement to interstellar travel, wormholes remain one of the most fascinating mysteries in modern physics. Are they just a mathematical curiosity, or could they one day become a reality?

Let’s explore the wonders of science together!🌌
Follow us and never miss out on what’s trending in the world of science! .ssc⚛️

Celebrating Science Conclave!

On the occasion of Science Conclave, the Physics Society organized a series of engaging and intellectually stimulating events, bringing together curious minds to explore the wonders of physics and beyond!

◆ Differential Derby - One of the most thrilling events at Science Conclave was Differential Derby, a high-intensity mathematics challenge designed to test problem-solving skills and analytical thinking. The event had two rounds - An online round on Unstop, where participants tackled challenging mathematical problems; and the final round was held offline, where the top qualifiers battled it out in a fast-paced contest of wits and logic!

◆ Solar Gazing - Exploring the cosmos, one sunspot at a time! With our department telescope, participants got the rare opportunity to observe the Sun's dynamic surface, sunspots, and solar activity in real time! This observational session provided students a chance to safely view the Sun through specialized solar filters, learning about solar activity and its significance in astrophysics.

◆ Interactive Stalls - From playing with physics to picturing science, these stalls were a hit among students and faculty alike! A hands-on experience where attendees explored physics concepts through interactive models, experiments, and demonstrations, making learning both fun and immersive!

Scientific Models as Games - Engaging experiments that brought physics to life!

Bear Pong & Science Pictionary - A fusion of fun and learning through creative challenges!

The Science Conclave was a fantastic platform for students to engage, learn, and appreciate the beauty of science in a collaborative environment.

The Physics Society, in collaboration with the Chemistry Society and the Mathematics Society; conducted an Inaugural Lectue and some competitions on Science Conclave -

▲ Inaugural Lecture - We had the honor of hosting Dr. Soumik Siddhanta (Associate Professor, IIT Delhi). His talk on Raman Spectroscopy: A Vibrational Adventure took us deep into the world of molecular interactions, shedding light on its applications across various scientific fields.

▲ Science Quiz - The quiz featured four rounds, beginning with a preliminary round conducted online via Unstop to finalize the top eight teams. Each team had a maximum of three members. The main event consisted of three rounds: a Buzzer Round, a Pounce and Bounce Round, and a Rapid-Fire Round, with teams being halved after each stage.

▲ Escape Room - An adrenaline-pumping challenge designed to test teamwork, logic, and problem-solving skills. Participants faced an immersive escape room experience where they raced against time to crack codes, solve puzzles, and break free!

▲ Poster Presentation Competition - An undergraduate level competition in which the participants had to choose a topic either from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or an interdisciplinary topic. They could either participate individually or in a group of two.

▲ Photography Competition - The event captured the imagination of students and photography enthusiasts alike! The theme, 'Symmetry in Science,' ignited a spark of creativity, yielding a stunning array of entries that showcased innovative perspectives and exceptional talent.

A few Centuries ago, Newtonian Physics was all that we wanted .. Humanity could answer it's questions and was satisfied with the answers...🕵️

Until we asked the question "What if..?"🤔

This gave birth to the two new regimes Relativistic 🕳️ and Quantum ⚡
But why do they still stand incompatible with each other?

Come join us on our venture to answer these questions and to see what progress have we as humans made so far!👐

Have you ever wondered how a star dies?
Or better yet what happened while it is dying?
Almost always the answer is SUPERNOVA!

The talk would start with a discussion of star classification, what happens in the core of the High Mass Stars and what is SNe(Supernovae) and it's types. The presenters will talk about how one can use Type IA SUPERNOVA as a cosmological probe- to Measuring Distance, Size, and Luminosity. Then the research paper "Late-time Observations of Calcium-Rich Transient SN 2019ehk Reveal a Pure Radioactive Decay Power Source" would be discussed. This paper presents the observations of the Calcium rich SN 2019ehk. The authors analyze the late time bolometric light curve fitting. They explore the effect of radioactive decay chains on the SNe ejecta to find out that it is predominantly affected by decay of Co-56. Finally contemplating on the most favourable progenitor models that agree with the chemical mass abundances.
