Before Henry Cavill, Hugh Jackman Wanted A Different British Actor To Be His Wolverine Replacement
Hugh Jackman previously revealed which British actor he wanted to take over as Wolverine after he hung up the claws, and it wasn't Henry Cavill. Following his official MCU debut in Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman has now portrayed James "Logan" Howlett's Wolverine in live-action for 24 years, which makes it difficult to imagine anybody else taking over the role. However, Jackman is one of three actors who've played Wolverine in live-action, with the most recent new iteration imagining a beloved British star as the iconic X-Men member.
While Troye Sivan portrayed a younger version of Logan in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a new variant of Wolverine was introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine, portrayed by Henry Cavill. Cavill is perhaps best known for portraying Clark Kent's Superman in the DCEU prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran's reboot, and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool even jokes that Cavill will be taken better care of in the MCU. Even so, it's unclear whether Henry Cavill will be playing the MCU's official Wolverine, meaning Hugh Jackman's original dream successor could still take the role.
Hugh Jackman Wanted Tom Hardy To Continue Wolverine’s Legacy
Back in 2015, Hugh Jackman spoke to MTV UK during the press tour for Pan and was asked who he could imagine taking over as Wolverine if 20th Century Fox were to recast him after Jackman's departure. Jackman was set to retire as Wolverine following the release of 2017's Logan, so Fox could certainly have taken this route, and Jackman wanted English actor Tom Hardy to fill his shoes. Even though he notes he doesn't want to "make it too easy" to replace him, he suggested that Tom Hardy would be "great."
Tom Hardy rose to prominence with outstanding performances in Bronson, Legend, Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant, to name a few, and has also shown his incredible dramatic and comedic talents on the small screen in Peaky Blinders and Taboo. He made his superhero franchise debut in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises as the villainous Bane, but is perhaps better known as Eddie Brock in Sony's Venom movies. Hardy's often-gritty and tough roles prove that he'd make for a fantastic Wolverine, and Hugh Jackman's dream casting could still come to fruition.
Tom Hardy Could Still Become Wolverine In The MCU’s Future
Tom Hardy's portrayal of Eddie Brock throws a spanner in the works, especially after 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home brought Hardy's Venom into the MCU's main continuity, albeit briefly. However, the magic of the multiverse means that Hugh Jackman's dream Wolverine casting can still happen. The MCU's Wolverine hasn't been seen yet, nor has Eddie Brock, so Tom Hardy could easily play the former, while a new actor debuts a younger Eddie Brock. Marvel Studios and Sony wouldn't even need to share Hardy, as his time as Venom is soon coming to an end.
Tom Hardy is set to return as the Lethal Protector in 2024's Venom: The Last Dance, but this trilogy-capper is expected to be his final solo movie as Eddie Brock. It's unclear whether he will continue to play the character in other projects, or even crossover into the MCU. If he doesn't, however, the door will be open for Tom Hardy to debut as the MCU's official Wolverine. It remains to be seen who will be cast as the new Wolverine after Hugh Jackman, but either Henry Cavill or Tom Hardy would be excellent choices.

British YouTuber Miles Routledge sparks outrage with racist remark about 'atomizing' India
British YouTuber Miles Routledge joked about launching nuclear bombs at India is a series of deeply racist posts on X.
British YouTuber Miles Routledge joked about launching nuclear bombs at India and accused, without evidence, an anonymous troll of being Indian in a series of deeply racist posts made on the social media platform X.
Routledge, 25, is best known as the British student who was stranded in Afghanistan during the Taliban takeover of 2021 and had to be evacuated from the war-torn country. On Tuesday, he triggered a slew of racist posts against Indians by sharing a screenshot in which an anonymous X user appeared to be threatening him. Routledge accused the X user of being an Indian despite nothing to suggest he belonged to India.
What Miles Routledge posted?
“Indian threatens to find me, it backfires lmao,” he wrote while sharing the screenshot. The screenshot shows a message which read: “I will find you I promise, your apology video will be sweet.”
Routledge responded to the message by sharing his address and following it up with “Saar okay lord saar good luck saar haha saar” in a message clearly mocking the way Indians apparently talk.
This was not the only racist post he made. In a separate tweet, the British author and YouTuber joked about launching nuclear weapons at India.
“When I become prime minister of England, I'll open the nuclear silos as an explicit warning to any foreign power that interferes with British interests and affairs. I'm not talking huge incidents, I'm itching to launch and atomize entire nations over the smallest infraction,” he said.
“Hell, I might just launch at India just for the sake of it!” Routledge added.
When an Indian X user accused him of rage-baiting, the Briton responded saying he just did not like India. He also provided an explanation as to why he thought the troll threatening him was an Indian.
“Believe it or not, I just don't like India. Also I can sense an Indian, he is indian. If a man online suddenly talks about ducking your mother in the first response, he's indian. Many such cases,” Routledge claimed.

Kalki 2898 AD OTT release: Prabhas-Amitabh Bachchan movie starts streaming; check how to watch it online
Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, is now available OTT platforms in multiple languages after a successful theatrical run.
Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, has finished its successful run at theatres. Now, the dystopic action movie is available on OTT streaming platforms. Starting from August 22, it can be watched digitally on both Netflix and Amazon Prime, each offering the movie in different languages.
The Hindi version of the movie is now available on Netflix. The Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam versions can be watched on Amazon Prime Video.
Kalki 2898 AD is available on two streaming platforms, apparently to attract a larger and more diverse audience from various regions and languages. Prabhas’ earlier release, Salaar: Part 1—Ceasefire, also followed the dual-platform strategy.
The movie Salaar: Part 1—Ceasefire, featuring Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Meenakshi Chaudhary, was released on Netflix on January 20. Prashanth Neel directed the action-packed film, which is available on the OTT platform in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and even English.
However, the Hindi version was released around a month later on Disney+ Hotstar. The OTT platform started streaming the Hindi version on February 16.
Releasing different language versions on separate OTT platforms may drive subscriptions for those specific platforms. However, this strategy could also frustrate viewers who may need to subscribe to multiple services to access the same movie in different languages.
Kalki 2898 AD Box Office Collection
Kalki 2898 AD has minted ₹1,041.65 crore from its theatrical run, as per Sacnilk. Its India gross collection stands at ₹766.65 crore in five weeks while the overseas collection is ₹275 crore. The movie was made for around ₹600 crore.
Kalki 2898 AD is the highest-grossing Indian movie of 2024. The second movie on the list is Stree 2, released on August 15. The horror-comedy, which has just started its theatrical journey, has collected over ₹360 crore. It is the top-grossing movie for Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in their respective career.
