Remembering Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari on his death anniversary (25 December 1880 - 10 May 1936)

He was one of the founders of Jamia Millia Islamia, known for his undying optimism and dedication. He served Jamia as a Chancellor between 1928-1936.

He led the Medical Mission to Turkey (1912) and led the Khilafat delegation to England (1920).

He went around India, explaining the importance of Jamia and collecting funds that were crucial for Jamia’s survival.

In Germany, along with Abdul Majid Khwaja, he influenced Zakir Husain, Abid Husain and Mohammad Mujeeb to come to serve Jamia

Remembering Hakim Ajmal Khan on his birth anniversary

Hakim Ajmal Khan was the major inspiration behind the foundation of Jamia and its first Chancellor, a post he held till his death in 1927.

He was an outstanding physician (hakim) by profession, hailing from a family of physicians. Today, he is more known today as a nationalist leader, freedom fighter, president of Indian National Congress (1921) and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi.

Ever since his successful involvement in the movement to elevate the MAO College into the status of a university, his dream was to found an academic institution, free of government control. He remained firm in his commitment to Jamia when the crisis of 1924 happened. He spent the latter part of his life and the better part of his wealth for the welfare of Jamia, often bailing Jamia out of the dilemmas and financial crises.

अलीगढ़ से दिल्ली स्थानांतरण भी जामिया को मुशकिलों से नजात ना दिला पाई। अभी जामिया अपने पैरों पर खड़े होने की कोशिश में लगी थी कि 1928 में हकीम अजमल खान का देहांत हो गया। हकीम साहब का देहांत जामिया के लिये किसी बड़ी त्रासदी से कम ना था। आर्थिक मुशकिलों का पहाड़ था जो टूट पड़ा था। हकीम साहब जामिया के औपचारिक कूलपति मात्र नहीं थे, बल्कि जामिया उनकी जिंदगी का मकसद थी जिसे सालों उन्होंने अपने जिगर के खून से सींचा था। जब आर्थिक तंगी का शिकार जामिया बंद होने के कगार पर पहुंच जाता तब हकीम साहब एक बेल आऊट पैकेज के साथ सामने आ जाते। वह ना सिर्फ़ अपने निजी पैसों से जामिया की मदद करते बल्कि देश के विभिन्न दूरदराज़ क्षेत्रों का दौरा करके जामिया के लिये फंड इकठ्ठा करते। कुदरत एक बार फिर जामिया के चाहने वालों की परीक्षा ले रही थी, लेकिन ये महान हस्तियां कब झुकने और डगमगाने वाली थीं सो इस परीक्षा में भी खरी उतरीं। डाक्टर जाकिर हुसैन, डाक्टर आबिद हुसैन और प्रोफ़ेसर मोहम्मद मुजीब साहब उन दिनों जर्मनी से अपनी शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद भारत वापिस आ चुके थे। जामिया की जिम्मेदारी अब इन्हीं तीन लोगों के कांधों पर आ पड़ी। एक एतिहासिक फैसला ले लिया गया। “अंजुमन तालीम ए मिल्ली” की स्थापना की गयी और उससे जुड़े लोगों ने ये प्रण लिया कि जामिया को बंद नहीं होने देंगें, 20 सालों तक जामिया नहीं छोड़ेंगें और 150 रूपये मासिक से ज़्यादा तनख्वाह नहीं लेंगें। इन तमाम मोड़ पर जामिया के जिम्मेदारों को गांधी जी की रहनुमाई और संरक्षण हासिल रही। गांधी जी किसी भी कीमत पर जामिया को बंद करने के हक़ में नहीं थे। जामिया गांधी जी के सपनों की ताबीर थी और उन्होंने जामिया से बहूत सारी उम्मीदें जोड़ रखी थीं। वो ना सिर्फ़ इस शैक्षिक संस्थान के वैचारिक स्थापक थे बल्कि सारी उम्र जामिया की जरूरतों का इहसास करते रहे।
