Food is never just food. It is memory wrapped in spice, migration folded into dough, politics simmering in steel pots, and love served without announcement. šŸ²

On Eating invites submissions exploring the many worlds hidden inside what we eat, cook, crave, inherit, and share. Essays, stories, poems, photo essays, graphic narratives, films, artworks, recipes with histories, kitchen conversations, street-side philosophies, and everything in between.

Send us work that lingers like the smell of frying onions in an old house.

Eclipse, Food, and the Work of Care
Volume 5 | Issue 9 | January 2026

An eclipse passes, and a household rearranges itself.
A blade of darbha placed inside a jar. Water covered. Light held back.

This story follows a family through preparation rather than spectacle.
Grass soaked. Cut. Tucked into salt, tamarind, oil, and curd.
Hands move in rhythm. Instructions carried through memory.

Here, food is not garnish. It is preservation.
It carries belief, labour, discipline, and the quiet work of care.
Darbha is not superstition. It is resilience made ritual.

A life measured in small gestures.
A history held in what we choose to protect.

Out now.
Read patiently. Let the memory do its work.

Shah reflects on how viewers encountered Echoes of Siwan. The exhibition unfolded not as a fixed narrative, but as an open field of responses. Some saw familiarity, others found distance, and many lingered somewhere in between.

Part of Takshila’s Shivir programme with a focus on photography, the project carried multiple ways of seeing into the gallery space. The audience completed the circuit, bringing their own memories, assumptions, and silences into the frame.

Every photograph held its ground. Every viewer shifted it, just a little.

Parthiv Shah speaks about the making of 'Echoes of Siwan'a project that moves between vision and reality.

As a curator, the task was never singular. One set of images had to live within the pages of a book, another had to breathe within the space of an exhibition. Between these two forms, the project unfolded as both archive and experience.

Ideally, photography demands time. Time to sit, to listen, to belong. But when artists arrive from across the country, time compresses. What remains essential then is access. The trust that precedes the camera.

Part of Takshila’s Shivir programme, this particular edition focused on photography, bringing together practitioners within a shared, time-bound encounter with Siwan.

Echoes of Siwan becomes less about capturing a place and more about negotiating distance, between the photographer and the photographed, between what is seen and what is understood.

At the Bologna Children's Book Fair 2026, Ektara arrived not just with books, but with a quiet universe of voices stitched together through language, illustration, and imagination.

The stand became a small, breathing corner where stories weren’t just displayed, they were discovered. Conversations unfolded across cultures, illustrations spoke without translation, and every page carried the warmth of many hands behind it.

From curious glances to lingering reads, Ektara found its rhythm in a global chorus of storytelling.

Because some stories don’t stay where they are made. They travel, they transform, and sometimes, they choose their readers.
