As Al reshapes education and daily life, a pressing question emerges for families everywhere: what do children actually need from us?
In the latest episode of Chicago’s Big Brains podcast, Prof. Dana Suskind, surgeon, pediatrician, and author of Human Raised, draws on decades of research to argue that no algorithm can replace the human connection at the heart of a child’s development. At a moment when Al-powered learning tools are rapidly entering classrooms and homes across India and the world, her message is both timely and clear: the earliest years of life matter more than ever, and parents and caregivers remain irreplaceable.

From a UChicago finals week idea to one of the world’s most competitive startup accelerators.

Rise Reforming, founded by three UChicago PME alumni, has been selected for the Summer 2026 cohort of Y Combinator. The startup is developing technology that converts waste biogas into lower-carbon chemicals, tackling both environmental and economic challenges in the energy sector.

The company grew out of UChicago PME’s Engineering Design Capstone course and the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a reminder that at UChicago, big ideas don’t stay in the classroom.

Happy 79th Independence Day, India! From Tagore’s 1913 visit to Nehru and Indira Gandhi walking this campus in 1949, to founding one of the country’s leading centers for South Asian studies, UChicago’s relationship with India spans — and predates — independence itself.
