✨Bazm-e-Adab team participated in Bait Baazi competition- Sahitya Saptah organized by Urdu Academy, Delhi on 18th August at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi. This event was organized on the occasion of 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence. Bait Baazi is a verbal game in which different teams or people participating have to recite couplets from Urdu poetry one after the other. The rules for Bait Baazi are quite simple. Bait Baazi is quite similar to the popular game Antakshari. The game starts with the first-person or team reciting a stanza (bait) of a poem. Each following player/team has to reply with another couplet or sher starting with the last letter of the verse used by the previous player. A couplet that has already been used in a game may not be repeated. Points are given to each team based on the way the couplet is recited and the quality, pronunciation and presentation of the couplet or sher.
The competition began with judge Ibne Kawal reciting a famous couplet from Diwan-e-Ghalib. Many very well experienced teams participated in this competition. Our team of beginners, representing St Stephen’s College, consisted of four members and was the youngest there. Our team won the fourth prize and was appreciated and encouraged by the judges to participate more.
A special thing about this competition is that it gives us an opportunity to listen to very popular couplets of various poets, hear them recited in an excellent way, and cultivate literature as a result. This competition contributes to our proficiency in speaking Urdu and in reciting poetry while giving us a very positive and pleasant experience✨

“Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai, dekhna hai ki zor kitna baazu-e-qatil mein hai”
✨The desire for revolution is in our hearts, we shall see how much strength lies in the arms of the enemy✨
These famous lines, usually associated with the revolutionary ideas of Bhagat Singh on screen, have been penned down by an Urdu poet ‘Bismil Azimabadi’. These immortal lines by Bismil Azimabadi were used as a war cry during the freedom struggle of India and are still in the hearts of the Indian people.🇮🇳
