The mission of parents should be to love care and guide ;which are the real rights of children.
But the fact is that we hqve instead neglected and indeed forgotten . Parents, may be unconsciously,have tormented and broken down their children . Have failed to recognise his power ,his value ,his essential nature .
In today's age , one must learn to be a parent before he actually becomes one.

Telling a child she shouldn't feel the way she does is similar to telling water it shouldn't be wet or grass it shouldn't be green.
Each feeling is real, liked by others or not , understood by others or not ,
They are still real.
So a good tip is ....
To first accept the feeling of the child and then adress the behaviour.

Each one of desires that children in our charge should bloom into their fragrant best. Every parent dreams that their children become "Winners": Every parent desires to develop their children into well-rounded personalities.
But they forget that in raising holistic children,parents have to focus on not just their kid's IQ but also their emotional skills(EQ).
Goleman, with his research , has proven that success in life can be attributed only 20% to IQ but 80% to other factors like EQ. In fact there are people who may not do really well on IQ tests , and may not be very skillful at their jobs , but who are very happy and contend with life.
So if your ultimate goal as a parent is to your child 'Happy' , help them develop their emotional intelligence.
And Yes , EI is learnable.

Children Learn What they live

If a child lives with criticism,he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with praise,he learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with ridicule,he learns to be shy.
If a child lives with security ,he learns to have faith.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,he learns to find love in the world.
If a child lives with approval,he learns to be like himself.

So be careful of the life and environment you give to your child. Because your child will be what the parents make of him.

COPING ABILITY
Anyone who thinks he has an excellent coping ability to confront problems may actually be heading towards a breakdown. It is accepted by psychologists that stress can have a cumulative effect. A person who feels proud of the fact that he has been facing one problem after another, and not feeling distressed in any way, may in fact be accumulating the stress. One day he may find himself breaking down at a very trivial problem.

This will not happen if the person were to accept his limitations and share his feelings with others. The coping ability of a person who gives in to his emotions in the form of crying, anger, or talking out, is far better than that of the person who bottles it up within himself.

When did my childhood go?
Was it the day I ceased to be eleven,
Was it the time I realised that Hell and Heaven,
Could not be found in Geography,
And therefore could not be,
Was that the day!

When did my childhood go?
Was it the time I realised that adults were not
all they seemed to be,
They talked of love and preached of love,
But did not act so lovingly,
Was that the day!

When did my childhood go?
Was it when I found my mind was really mine,
To use whichever way I choose,
Producing thoughts that we're not those of other people
But my own, and mine alone

Where did my childhood go?
It went to some forgotten place,

One very effective way to enhance self- esteem in children or anyone is to ask them to write -
The ten things I like about Me.
This helps them know their strengths. Do take a chance to remind them these when they feel low.
