Bacteriophage-encoded lysin-based antibiotics (enzybiotics) are rapidly emerging as promising alternatives. Lysins kill bacteria by cutting up their cell wall and importantly, bacteria have low propensity to gain resistance against them.
Hey folks! Very happy to announce International Bacteriophage Research Consortium symposium on . Here is the opportunity to meet the stalwarts in the field, who took lysins from bench to clinical trial. Prof Vincent Fischetti, the primary developer of the lysin technology from Rockefeller University and Dr Balganesh Tanjores who heads the company https://gangagen.com/about/. The ectolysin from their company has reached the clinical trial stage. Mr Sukumar, Head, Product Development would share the presentation. Joseph Campbell leader, bacteriophage interest group at NIAID, NIH will give a brief overview on Phage Research Landscape in the United States.

Indeed delighted to announce Dr. Jason Gill as our next guest in the series on . He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University and Associate Director of the Center for Phage Technology (CPT).
Dr. Gill’s major research focus is on the basic & and the applications of phages in real-world settings against pathogens including Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii and E. coli. Their group has developed comprehensive training materials on using the pipelines and are making educational video modules to go with the developed training material.

researchers need gene-prediction and annotation tools, customised for genomes since the available tools though are adapted to run on phage genomes, but are unable to capture their full complexity. So folks, up next on board in the ' is Katelyn McNair, an expert in . She has developed software, a novel method for gene calling specifically designed for phages & , for predicting lytic/temperate phages. Series is being co-hosted by and

Hello Time to throw more light on the dark matter . Considering the importance of genomic characterization of phages to understand their biology and in safe use in therapeutics and other applications, International Bacteriophage Research Consortium (IBRC) and Phage Directory are co-hosting a series of Webinars. This will be a beginner-focused series aimed at helping phage researchers get up to speed on current practices, tools and tips, and will be taught by invited experts in the field. As a companion to this series, we’ve just launched a Slack channel called -bioinformatics within the Phage Directory Slack where you can share your questions and work through issues together with the community. Hello phage folks. Here is the announcement for IBRC lecture by Prof Paul Turner on 27 January (Wednesday) at 6.30 pm IST/8 am EST. Prof Paul has been studying ecology and evolution of bacteriophages for more than two decades. His expertise lies in Phage Steering and InSeqMutagenesis. Recently, he co-founded Felix Biotechnology, a clinical stage biotherapeutics company for applications of phages in treating bacterial infections. Do join for an enriching session. Congratulations to Jessica Sacher and Jan Zheng on 's 100th issue of &Tail and its two-year anniversary!!
They recently launched a survey called State of Phage 2020 https://survey.phage.directory. This survey is to help us all better understand the phage research community globally, including what kind of phages and strains people are collecting, what methods they're using to characterize them, and more. If you work with phages, please fill it out!
Phage Directory will compile and share the results in Capsid & Tail in 2021, and repeat the survey annually so we can all follow and share our community's exciting growth over time. Cover art by KemaMalki!
