The seminal ruling in Kesavananda Bharati, in which the Supreme Court laid down the “basic structure” doctrine on the limits of Parliament’s power to amend the Constitution, completes 50 years on Monday.
Over the decades, the basic structure doctrine has been criticised repeatedly — for diluting the principle of separation of powers and undermining the sovereignty of Parliament, and as a vague and subjective form of judicial review.

Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was an Indian polymath and the chairman of the Constituent Drafting Committee. He is popularly known as Babasaheb, meaning father in Marathi. He had seen a lot of caste-based discrimination in his early life, but that didn't stop him from growing and challenging the old regime of discrimination. Rather, it made him do more exemplary work for our country. He made a constitution that has given equal opportunity to all, and he made discriminatory practices illegal in our country.
The History and Political Science Society wishes you all a Happy Ambedkar Jayanti on this day, the 14th of April 2023.
