We were incredibly privileged and honoured to represent ABRSM at the 5th ISME South Asia Regional Conference held in Bengaluru.
During the conference, Ms. Sonia Khan had the opportunity to deliver a presentation on "Music Education and Sustainability," exploring how we can evolve traditional assessments into digital-first, resource-respectful practices while simultaneously making our in-person performances, physical exams, and main regional hubs stronger to build a truly resilient, long-term ecosystem.
A true highlight of the conference was having the event graced by the outgoing President of ISME, Prof. Bo Wah Leung, whose presence and insights added immense value to the deliberations.
Reflecting on this three-day event, we feel deeply inspired. The energy at the event was truly global. We had the privilege of attending presentations from outstanding speakers, policy makers, educationalists from esteemed institutes and universities across India, as well as delegates and organizations representing Sri Lanka, Nepal, Finland, and Italy.
The discussions made one thing abundantly clear: we must work collectively and strategically to bring quality music and education into the mainstream of the Indian Education System; besides bridging cultures and bringing together people from all walks of life through the magical power of music.
We also witnessed some mesmerising performances by the Laya Ranjani Percussion Ensemble curated by G S Nagaraj, the Kutumba Group from Nepal, Nrutya School of Art, BSM Chorale and the BSM Jazz Orchestra and The Harmony Chorus.
We are specially grateful to our hosts, The Bangalore School of Music — Mr. Vikram Sunderlal and Ms. Rebecca Thomas Colaco, and our wonderful organizers, Ms. Sandra Oberoi and Ms. Shree Lakshmi Vaidyanathan, for their incredible support and dedication in executing such a monumental event. Thank you to everyone who made this conference a milestone journey toward sustainable musical growth in South Asia!
