SwaTaleem Foundation at in New York!
On September 25, we had the privilege of hosting From Access to Agency: Rethinking Girls’ Education and Systems Change — an interactive session that moved participants from reflection to action.
🔹 Why now matters – Jennifer L. O’Donoghue (Brookings) shared insights from LAAGA, underscoring why investing in girls’ agency is urgent.
🔹 Our approach – Co-founder Ananya Tiwari presented SwaTaleem’s framework on centering girls’ voices to rewire education systems for equity.
🔹 Commitments – Participants pledged bold actions, reminding us that transformation is a collective journey.
Beyond our own session, we engaged in multiple conversations across UNGA 80:
- UNGEI FemNet Annual Gathering – calling for more multi-sectoral approaches to girls’ education.
- Accelerator on Gender Norms – conversations on what it takes to truly shift harmful norms.
- India Philanthropy Forum 2025 (Dasra) – spotlighting transformative approaches to philanthropy.
- Drop the Script – intimate film-led dialogues on reimagining secondary education.
- Social Innovation Summit & lululemon Dinner – linking wellbeing, resilience, and collaboration (SwaTaleem is a 2025 grantee).
- Beyond Numbers, Outcomes, and Scores (Brookings / Dream a Dream) – redefining what counts as meaningful evidence in education.
- The Agency Summit (NYU & Agency Fund) – featuring Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz on expanding agency.
The week closed with community-building moments - from the Brookings NEST discussion to an inspiring gathering of Indian nonprofit leaders to multiple meetings - reinforcing the power of collective action.
We return from with optimism: systems change in girls’ education is gaining momentum.
A heartfelt thank you to our partners, and every funder, practitioner, and peer who walked with us on this journey.

Cycle 3 Wardens’ Workshops - Completed Successfully!
Last week, we concluded the Wardens’ Workshops in Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Bengaluru, and Mysuru in Karnataka, marking the successful completion of Cycle 3. A total of 138 wardens, along with Department officials, came together to engage in deep dives on Foundational English and CSAG, showcase creative TLMs, charts, and classroom activities through a Gallery Walk, and share success stories, challenges, and best practices.
The workshops also featured celebrations of the Kasturba Kalika Sambhrama (KKS). It is a celebration event that highlights the wardens’ year-long journey. It serves as a platform for them to showcase their best practices and share their work with fellow wardens and officials across districts, making it a truly enriching experience for everyone involved.
A special highlight was the recognition of wardens by Samagra Shikshana Karnataka and SwaTaleem Foundation, with certificates signed by the SPD, Samagra Shikshana Karnataka. Each workshop ended with renewed confidence, joy, and commitment to empowering Girls in KGBVs and KKGBVs. Together, we continue to strengthen the foundation for a brighter future in Girls’ education across Karnataka.

The Tab Labs set up in KGBVs across Haryana are opening new doors for Girls to explore, learn, and grow.
The Girls absolutely enjoy the Tab Lab sessions, forming peer groups, exploring diverse topics, and supporting each other in learning. One of the most significant outcomes has been their deep engagement with health & hygiene modules especially the topic of periods. Through interactive modules, Girls are gaining accurate information, confidence, and a safe space to talk about something that has long been surrounded by silence.
Wardens have noticed remarkable improvements, not just in academics, but also in the confidence and awareness of the Girls.
These labs are more than just digital spaces, they are hubs of curiosity, confidence, and collaboration for Girls ready to shape their own future.

Three Days of Learning, Bonding, and Growth!
Our Karnataka team recently came together for a three-day internal training and team-building workshop, which left them inspired, connected, and re-energized for the journey ahead.
Key highlights and outcomes:
- Built stronger interpersonal connections and trust within the team
- Explored literature and storytelling as powerful tools to mentor adolescent Girls
- Strengthened time management skills for greater effectiveness
- Collaborated on brainstorming and planning videos for field engagement and digital resource creation
- Reflected on team strengths while envisioning the culture we aspire to build together
One of the most enriching moments was a session on “Stories as a Mirror: Using Literature to Mentor Adolescent Girls” led by Mr. Pavan Kumar, Teacher Educator and Educationist, which gave fresh insights into how stories can inspire and empower young Girls.
We concluded this workshop with not just new skills and strategies, but also a refreshed sense of purpose, to continue learning, supporting each other, and driving meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
