Do you know what the Pragyan Litmus test is in the Nepali debate community? Just walk into the top room of a reputed debate tournament, and notice top-tier debaters with heartbeats elevated at the hint of imminent danger, slowly feeling helpless as the life of their argument is sucked dead through extensive deconstruction. Glance at the judges taking rigorous notes, crossing speaks boundaries and scratching their heads helplessly looking to conjure a simple piece of feedback. Look around at the cheers of novice debaters who have gathered around to witness a massacre. At that moment you will know, somewhere in that room there is Pragyan, whose voice in the debate echoes all these events. As I counted my defeats in spars and tournaments against him, I used to think he was just drawn a larger share of the brain at the lottery of birth. It was only when I teamed up with him at The British College Debates, my perspective entirely changed. Pragyan wasn’t born bulletproof. For every single round, he had a meticulously prepared matter file, each page of which reflected sleepless nights, hardworking Pragyan had put to construct that brilliant mind bit by bit. No wonder, we won the tournament and he made it so seem so easy. I saw how his pursuit of perfection was a constant battle against his own past insecurities which ignited in him the fire to be the best in the craft he loved so much.

As the debate world moved online transforming this beautiful craft from expensive hotel rooms and college venues to discord channels and zoom break-outs, Pragyan got the platform he needed to shine. Pragyan judged the EFL Semi-Finals on his first Worlds during Korea WUDC 2021, judged EFL Semi-Finals in his first UADC at Bangladesh UADC 2020, judged the Open Grand Finals to become 7th Best Judge of Asia at Bali UADC, and Judged EFL Grand Finals in his first ABP at Sido-Hanoi ABP 2021. Of course, if the respective tournaments had happened in Korea, Bangladesh, Bali, or Vietnam this history would never be written. But, online debating allowed a Nepali debater who was previously judging his life because of the access barriers to major tournaments went on to judge those tournaments and transform other people’s lives through feedback and insights. The online era then prompted him to convene Nepal's first major, South Asia's first Australs - Nepal Australs 2021. One which unlike any of the previous iterations was free and accessible to all.

Pragyan will really transform the experience in this tournament with his pursuit to the highest quality this craft can be stretched to. Also just a warning from personal experience: if you are thinking of debating against Pragyan, I can say that even with years of confidence, fluency, and persuasive skills you have developed through rigorous debate training and tournaments, you will feel the colors drain from your face and confidence disappear as Pragyan walks into the room to debate against you.

"In debating it's all too easy to fall into the trap of substituting arguments with buzzwords and attempting to set a debate in an ideal world, the proverbial "debateland" and attempting to win in it. The outright refusal to do this is what sets Adi apart, because he not only ensures that his arguments are always grounded in reality , choosing to weaponize fact rather than jargon and always speaking with a conviction that inspires and kind of scares. His long list of accolades are self-explanatory as to the efficacy of his debating ethos. Even more remarkable is his dedication to debating , as he's been a veteran for a long time and doesn't seem to have fallen off but rather seems to have gotten better with time in truly LeBronesque fashion.

Despite being such an accomplished debater, Adi has always been one of the most approachable and genuine people, to have a chat and a laugh with, straying from the trope that debaters have ego's bigger than their case files.

Hello? Am i audible? I hope so, but I have no clue what am I supposed to write in that bio, cause, like, if you've not been living under a rock for the last 2 years you already know how awesome and competent Flora is. If you think I'm going to casually create a story around every single break Flora's had you cannot be more wrong (even if I was skilled to do it Facebook's words limit will not allow me to include all of them)
If you really wanna know who's gonna CA your tournament you have to check Flora's dancing choreographies on YouTube (she's taken the leading part in "Step Up 8, not all debaters are nerds", in mainstream cinemas soon). The 2nd best thing about flora (besides her complete and total awesomeness) is her dog Dubu, the fluffiest cloud in town (the 3rd best is Mahu, a person with the highest amount of MUN's they've participated with, ?). If you need more reason to come to Vitark 2022, just text her, after 15 minutes the only thing you'll be able to think about is "omg whatever she does it's gonna be lit"

'' I've seen Aayana right from her very speech at an internal tournament where she didn't know she had to come to the podium to speak, all the way to currently being one of the finest debaters in the country. And what's remarkable is that she's managed this exponential rise in less than 2 years, regularly beating debaters who've been doing this activity for far longer.

If you're a relatively new debater looking to come to this comp, Aayana's probably the best person to chat with on how to improve yourself. She's "can you hear me re-give this speech for the fifth time" level meticulous and "sorry can't talk, I'm typing feedback for teams" level approachable.

But especially if you've been to your fair share of comps, I'd think you'll find this comp fun because Aayana has an eerie habit of pulling new motion ideas out of casual conversations. And having been at the receiving end of her explaining those motions late in the night, I can safely say - they're pretty cool.

Having Aayana at this comp means you’ll have a CA who deeply cares about making this space inclusive and welcoming. No matter who you are, she will go great lengths to make you feel like you belong to this activity and that she'll always be there for you.
