BREAKING THE ICE

"The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.” — John Milton

Our minds carry worlds within them, sometimes gentle, sometimes heavy. Talking about it, however, often feels like the hardest step. This 20th August, the History Society, Miranda House, invites you to Breaking the Ice, a mental health awareness session with Dr. Aarti Bardhan.

Aarti ma’am is not just our college counsellor but also a research scholar, a counseling psychologist, and a life skills educator with nearly 17 years of experience. As a trainer-consultant with the Delhi Government’s School of Mental Health initiative, she has been a guiding light for countless young people in finding balance, strength, and clarity.

Let us come together for conversations that matter, about breaking silence, breaking stigma, and most importantly, breaking the ice. After all, happier smiles find their home in healthier minds.

A girl from a small village near Makrana, Rajasthan, who was once crying on her orientation day as if it was her first day of school, now stands tall and confident as the President of her department.

I, Tanisha Choudhary, am deeply honoured to take charge as the President of the Department of History, Miranda House. I'm truly thankful to everyone who placed faith in me and filled my journey with immense love and encouragement. I don't even know when I fell so deeply in love with this department over the past two years.

You’ll usually find me in the kabaddi ground at 7 a.m., and later roaming the campus, laughing with friends, juniors, and greeting people with a warm smile in the corridors, the canteen, or sometimes in the library too. I just love meeting new people, making connections and spreading my cool vibes everywhere. Yeah, Miranda isn’t just my college, it’s my second home.

I believe power comes with poise, not poison and therefore, I make sure to remain calm and
composed in every situation. I consider my boldness to be my greatest strength as it helps me stay true to myself in every circumstance.

I truly value everyone's hard work and contribution to the department. I know this department holds great potential, and I'm really looking forward to creating a safe and positive environment where everyone is given fair and equal opportunities, and where we remain kind, helpful, and respectful towards each other.

To my dear juniors and fellow classmates,
I just want to say that if you're ever facing a problem, feeling low, or something's bothering you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’ll be there for you, always ready to listen, without being judgmental.

Truly excited for this adventurous rollercoaster ride, with all its ups and downs. I just hope that when the time comes to write my sign-off post, my eyes are filled with pride and my heart with satisfaction, knowing that I did complete justice to my role and responsibilities.

Meet .raj_05- The Raahi President,Sometimes it still catches her off guard that she’s in her final year and now Raahi President. But for those who’ve seen Sneha over the years, it feels like a quiet full circle. Raahi was never just a society to her, it was a space she kept coming back to and stayed with because it felt like something she could build on. She once said she goes by the song “Ruk jaana nahin tu kahin haar ke” and it shows in the way she went through rejections, wins, and everything in between. She worked, she applied, she even lost once. But somehow, this year feels like the universe returning the love she has always poured into it. She’s now leading the team, it’s been a steady, genuine journey.

This year, she wants to keep things simple and clear. With a head full of ideas (often noted down in the middle of the night), she’s thinking about ways to involve more people, explore new stories and do the little things that make Raahi what it is. She’ll be around making sure things move.

You can find her mostly chilling, planning or deep in conversation about something she truly loves (or something she genuinely hates). Ask her to mention 10 things she loves about Raahi, she’ll always give you 11.

More than anything, she hopes Raahi continues to feel the way it once did to her, like a place worth staying for. With her love for old buildings, quiet corners and everything in between, this year isn’t about doing something grand but doing everything with thought, with people and with heart just as Raahi has always done.

She didn’t fall in love with History, she collapsed into it headfirst, dramatically and irreversibly! Meet , our General Secretary. A walking archive of passion, politics, and painfully long debates about sibling rivalries in history. (Try asking her about Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb, we dare you.)

Ideologically intense, And slightly crazily so. (kind of concerning). The kind of person who listens to everything you say and immediately begins crafting a sociological analysis of it in her head. She doesn’t just believe in ideas, she lives by them. And she will bring them up in casual conversations, committee meetings, and possibly even at birthday parties.

From fangirling over Uma Chakravarti to attempting at moderating every event we’ve had ,if it involves history, she’s already present with a mic in her hand. She lives by the quote “Jeena Marna Itihaas ke saath” (she may have cried reading it). She will go on and on about how History is her one true love and will casually collect trinkets because they remind her of the Harappan Civilization.

Diya thinks “Rang De Basanti is a lifestyle”. Ideologically intense, romantically revolutionary, and 100% ready to lead a protest if needed (her idea of a perfect day, actually). Her room is filled with posters, annotated books, unfinished half scribbled notes and intense instrumental music playing in the background like she’s narrating a dramatic political documentary.

Unapologetically political, She lives by Nivedita Menon and Tanika Sarkar, a feminist through and through. When she’s not running around in college auditioning for moderations you will probably find her roaming around at the National Museum. We’re in small, yet safe and slightly chaotic hands.

Warning: Highly contagious Energy Ahead.

Enter - Vice President of Raahi and full time Punjabi tornado with dashes of drama, laughter and Punjab in her DNA.

Esha isn't just into history - she romanticizes it (and feels guilty about it). History for her isn't dusty dates and timelines - it's drama, beauty and people. She sees life in forgotten walls, smiles at ruins ( at the transient nature of life) and finds magic in every monument.

She’s a hardcore Punjaban, unapologetically loud about her love for Punjabi culture, literature, music, and the kind of storytelling that makes your spine tingle. From quoting Waris Shah to Amrita Pritam’s aching verses and Shiv Kumar Batalvi’s aching love. Her love for Punjabi literature isn't performative - it's personal. Whether it's the vibrant folklore, the soul-stirring poetry, or the warmth of Punjabi mitti, Esha breathes Punjab — and she brings that same warmth and zest into every Raahi walk.

And yes - she absolutely loves getting clicked. From accidental candids (staged) to poetic silhouettes (also staged), she knows her angles better than a film director. Her favourite line? “Bas ek aur photo… last one, promise!”(It’s never the last one.)

And above all, it’s her inclusivity that makes her magic. Whether you’re a first-year student nervously joining your first walk, or someone who’s never read a page of history - Esha will draw you in with a smile, say “chal na yaar, tu bhi aa,” and suddenly, you’ll feel like you belong.

So here she is - Esha Gupta. The girl who makes history romantic, debates exciting, and life… just a little more cinematic. 🌸✨

To jao yaar follow Karo .mh)

Meet our Treasurer; If history had a fan club, Janhvi would be the President, Treasurer, and VIP Member all at once! For her, history isn’t just a subject—it’s an emotion, a vibe, a whole aesthetic. She’s drawn to it like an iron to a magnet. When Janhvi is not busy making sure every rupee is in its rightful place, you’ll find her in the company of old chronicles, wandering through historical monuments.

As the official guardian of the society’s Khazana, she promises to protect it with more dedication than her Maggie stash. Armed with integrity, transparency, and honesty, Janhvi is ready to make the History Society not just rich in heritage, but rich in good vibes too.

Her vision? To create connections that last longer than the Mughal Empire and memories that deserve their own chapter in history books! Because at the end of the day, it’s all about making this journey as legendary as the stories we love.
Finally, Jeena marna Itihaas ke saath!

Meet —For her, graphics is not just about putting elements together, it's about making sure it actually looks thoughtful, clean, a little raw, way too aligned, but alive. Just a few weeks in, and it already feels like a full-time job, but one that's actually fun with her ridiculously gifted co-head by her side.

She's looking forward to a year full of learning(canva), experimenting(with fonts& color pallettes), exploring(pinterest) communicating(beyond just aesthetics), socialising(hopefully) ,and making the most of her last year(if).

And

She has a mind not just full of ideas, but full of worlds waiting to be created. Meet .arun06: the Graphics Head for the History Society of Miranda House. A girl who never confined herself to just one path, she always believed in experimenting. From dancing, acting, to debating and MUNs, she’s dipped her toes into it all.

Back in 11th grade, she casually decided to give photography and editing a shot, not knowing that this small step would lead her to become the President of the Photography Club in school, and later, the Graphics Head in college.

With every new year, every new try, she’s been on a journey of exploring her hobbies and understanding herself a little better.

Now, with her love for history and passion for editing, she’s here to give it yet another shot but this time, to blend both and bring her ideas to life with her sweetest co-head ever.

Meet our IT Cell Head — a Rajasthani soul with a big heart, bold kajal, and an even bolder love for life! ✨ She doesn’t need a reason to dress up—she does it for herself, because every day deserves a little sparkle. From earrings to eyeliner, she adds a touch of glam to even the simplest days. Fashion is her vibe, but kindness is her religion .

She’s that friend who never judges, so no one ever has to worry about being “too much” around her. Be weird, be real, be yourself—she’ll cheer you on with a warm smile (and probably a samosa, because yes, she cooks those too, and they’re always a hit with her gang!).

Nature is her happy place, travel is her therapy, and peace is her ultimate goal. Whether she’s getting lost in a sunset or painting her heart out on a canvas, Priyanka finds joy in life’s little moments 🎨.

She loves deep conversations, spontaneous plans, and making people feel at home around her. One kind word is enough for her to become your biggest supporter, loudest cheerleader, and possibly the best cook in your circle .

Chill, colorful, grounded yet dreamy—that’s Priyanka. Be nice once, and she’s all yours 🤍.

Scribbling down the most mundane and intellectually stimulating verses with poetic flair, to perfecting academic articles with quiet devotion, she wears the dark circles under her eyes like a crown. Just like a queen, now hailing as the Content Head, meet ._._ , who turns the simplest ideas into intricate, mind-boggling marvels.

To all fellow overthinkers (and others): let it be known that she loves the drama of silences and quiet introspection. Those in her inner circle know this lighthearted perfectionist-in-the-making may not be the biggest chit-chatter, but beware! Once the ice is broken, she delves from the known to the unknown in ways that make the listener question everything, including their own existence. A studious soul who rarely misses a class and always has her notes in order, she finds joy in music, fiction, period dramas, poetry, and above all, the world of fantasy. Writing defines her, and verses are her chosen way to breathe.

Now stepping into the council as Content Head, she aims to foster inclusivity and a welcoming, collaborative space, where every idea is heard, and help is always within reach. She brings to the table the kind of dedication a chronicler holds for their majestic pen. Because weaving facts, myths, and mysteries is an art born of passion, and writing from the heart? A rare gift. Let this be a fresh beginning, where words hold weight, wonder, and warmth. Here's to a year of sculpting thought into story, and story into legacy.

And

Meet our content head , a certified Banaras Paglu who somehow made Delhi her second home. For her history isn't just about reading what happened, it's about protecting it from twisting around. You'll usually find her wandering through Delhi (Chandni chowk has her heart) because exploring places with a history-enthusiast lens is her idea of fun. She is always up for spontaneous plans. Also fair warning: she love ghazals, so don't be surprised if her captions slip into poetry every now and then.

Meet *ta_0928 our Logistics Head; If problem-solving had a face, it would probably look like Ish*ta frantically figuring out solutions while muttering "koi baat nahi, jugaad kar lenge!" She's the kind of person who gets nervous before every task but magically pulls off everything with her signature jugaad approach. When she's not busy coordinating events, you'll find her socializing and spreading laughter wherever she goes.

As our Logistics Head, Ish*ta promises to handle all the behind-the-scenes magic with true Rajasthani dedication. Armed with her social skills and endless backup plans, she's ready to turn potential chaos into seamless experiences.

Her vision? To keep everything running smoothly while making sure everyone has a great time – because good vibes and good logistics go hand in hand!

And

Meet , your logistics head for the session ; You might not always see logistics, but you’ll definitely feel it when it’s missing — and that’s exactly where Shreya proves her mettle. She is the one who genuinely enjoys turning plans into reality, ensuring everything runs smoothly, on time, and with purpose, by coordinating resources and managing tight timelines to handling last-minute surprises.

If you've ever seen someone sprinting through verandas — from the department, to the event venue, to the admin office — juggling mics, speakers, and an ever-growing checklist, that’s her in action.

Here’s to a year filled with purpose, energy, and unforgettable events, and a treasure trove of core memories — where every wire connects, every schedule aligns, and every last-minute fix happens quietly behind the scenes, all coming together to create a truly seamless experience…

Meet , our first "PR & Sponsorship Head", sounds heavy, doesn't it? Guess it sounded the same to her as well.

She is a lively presence on campus, known for her uncontrollable laughter, dramatic flair, and quirky Geet-like personality, complete with witty rants like, “Main to hamesha bakwas krti hoon, tum”?, with a wicked sense of humor. Yet beneath the chaos, there's also a responsible, dedicated, calm(sometimes) and perfection-driven side to her, much like Piku.

Well, guess she didn't choose this position, rather it chose her. Fresher Suhani, who doubted herself constantly of being accepted into this esteemed institution, could never have imagined joining the Hissoc Council, but fate has a part to play. This department has always valued her for who she is, and she believes that it is time for her to return all of the affection back to this department.

Sure, it would be a journey for her to figure things out on her own, but making tasks fun and light is her forte, still doing them with as much honesty and sincerity. As the Sponsorship Head, she promises to bring more funds (and sponsorship tasks too:)) to make our department richer💅🏼✨

And

Meet , our PR and Sponsorship Head from the second year. If you ever spot someone darting across campus, cold coffee in one hand and a phone buzzing with the next collab call in the other—that’s Avisha. On the surface, she’s calm and collected, the kind of person you’ll find on the lawns, lost in slow music and spiralling into weird and obscure history stories. But give her a minute, and she’ll switch into her PR & Sponsorship Head mode: all-in, persuasive, and somehow convincing even the busiest sponsors to hop on board.

Her friends swear by her “Doraemon pocket”—need a charger, a snack, or random stationery? She’s already got it. And when she’s not weaving connections for the society, she’s either unraveling forgotten historical anecdotes or stealing a quiet samosa break with her people. Avisha is the perfect blend of serene daydreamer and unstoppable force—the history storyteller who turns every “what if” into a “done deal.”
