🪔 Happy Diwali from NCI 🪔
As homes across India glow with lamps and lanterns, Diwali marks a celebration of light, learning, and renewal.
Rooted in tradition yet ever-evolving, Diwali brings together families, communities, and cultures. For those of us working across borders in education and research, it is also a powerful reminder:
🌟 that knowledge dispels ignorance,
🌟 that hope outshines despair, and
🌟 that partnerships across distance can illuminate shared paths forward.
This Festival of Lights inspires us to keep nurturing the values we hold close — curiosity, courage, and compassion.
Wishing all our member universities, partners, colleagues, and friends a joyful and peaceful Diwali.
May this season bring brilliance to your ideas and warmth to your collaborations.
Shubh Deepavali!

Vijaya Dashami Wishes from NCI 🇮🇳✨🇳🇴🇫🇮🇩🇰🇮🇸🇸🇪
On this Vijaya Dashami, India celebrates the eternal message of dharma (righteousness) triumphing over adharma (injustice). Across the country, the day marks the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, as narrated in the Ramayana, as well as Goddess Durga’s triumph over Mahishasura in the Devi Mahatmya, highlighting courage, virtue, and the triumph of good.

As India now prepares for Diwali and the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya, we pause today to reflect on the deeper meanings of this festival: inner strength, justice, and renewal to build a better world.

May the spirit of truth, compassion, and resilience inspire us all—across borders and cultures.

Happy Dussehra / Vijayadashami!

Gandhi Jayanti | 2 October
India honours the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi – a symbol of truth, resilience, and non-violence.
In today’s times, his message holds deeper meaning:
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world."
His philosophy grounded in truth and non violence reminds us that transformation begins from within. In the face of injustice, conflict, or uncertainty, choosing dialogue over division and empathy over apathy remains a powerful act.
May India continue to inspire and be inspired — by the enduring ideals of satya and ahimsa.

Celebrating 90 Years of Early Childhood Teacher Education at OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University!

This September, the Nordic Centre in India - India along with some of its partners in were delighted to be part of the celebrations of the of Early Childhood Teacher Education (BLU) at OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University.

This milestone marks not just a celebration of BLU’s pioneering role in teacher education but, for us, a reminder about BLU's commitment towards long-term collaboration with .

It was also fantastic to meet our practice placement students from 2024 and 2025

What began as years of planning has taken shape under the project, designed to strengthen the culture of internationalisation and expand student exchange opportunities in Early Childhood Education so that future Norwegian early childhood educators are better equipped to handle more multicultural classrooms.

Through this partnership:
Students from OsloMet’s BLU spend three months in India on practice placements

Collaboration is enriched by teacher exchanges, COIL projects, and Blended Intensive Programs with European partners.

The focus is on enhancing academic outcomes, fostering intercultural dialogue, and building stronger global classrooms

At NCI, we are proud to be part of this journey — enabling meaningfulNordic-–India cooperation that prepares educators for a truly global future.

Here’s to celebrating the past 90 years of BLU — and shaping the decades to come!

🇮🇳 Happy Independence Day, India!
On this 15th of August, we honour India’s journey of freedom, resilience, and diversity — a nation rooted in ancient civilisations and constantly evolving as a global force for knowledge, democracy, and innovation.
At the Nordic Centre in India (NCI), we celebrate not only India’s past and present but also its future — shaped every day in classrooms, research labs, and cultural exchanges.

As we continue building bridges between India and the Nordic region, we are reminded that the true spirit of independence lies in shared learning, open dialogue, and inclusive growth.

Here’s to freedom — of thought, expression, and collaboration.

Meet Dr. Gitanjali Joshua, Programme Assistant, SIP 2025: Gender & Society

Say hello to Gitanjali Joshua — a true interdisciplinary explorer and the ever-curious Programme Assistant for the NCI Summer Programme on Gender and Society in Contemporary India at the University of Hyderabad.

PhD in Sociology, Gitanjali’s work explores the intersection of gender, law, and religion, focusing on India’s complex landscape of religious personal laws.

But her interests stretch far beyond the classroom...

Fossils, dinosaurs, and the sea—she’s drawn to all things vast and wondrous. A fiction writer at heart, her work was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, 2022. And wherever she goes, cats somehow find her.

At NCI, we love learning alongside curious minds like Gitanjali’s — where academic depth meets creative delight.
