INTRODUCING TALENT
Every human being possesses his or her own ‘pratibha’ or unique talent. Unfortunately, not all people get the opportunity to search for or discover their hidden potential. Social, societal and economic circumstances can stand in the way of developing that potential. Over the years, neighborhoods in Old Delhi’s walled city once known for their glory have lost such esteem. The area’s identity has shifted from Shahjahanabad in the original Dilli, to Delhi to finally, Delhi 6. In the process, perceptions have shifted from viewing it as a glorious place to now a filthy, backward locality. Today, even some residents within the walled city look down upon their area. The loss of interest in this area has resulted also in the loss of many traditions that originated here. TALENT works on two levels: helping youth unearth their latent potential buried within them and, at the same time, unlocking the hidden treasures buried within Old Delhi. TALENT is a group of young and dynamic people who are working in the field of Performing Arts, Health, Environment, Education, Technology and Research to provide an opportunity to the Youth, Women, and Children belonging to Lower Socio-Economic Backgrounds from the walled city of Old Delhi. The founders formed the group in 1998, starting off with small performances. TALENT has expanded its repertoire to include the revival of Qissa-Goi, an ancient form of storytelling native to Delhi. The organization is registered in 2000 under the society registration No. 38306 act.1860. TALENT is associated with the Indian Mime Theatre (National Mime Institute) Kolkata and is an associated member of the National Institute of Performing Arts (NIPA) and the International Amateur Theatre Association (IATA), A Cooperate Body of UNESCO.
