"Parrots"

, also known as Psittacines, are birds of all colors that usually inhabit warmer climates and are found mostly in tropical and subtropical regions. Parrots are characterized by strong, curved beaks to crack hard nuts; a large head; strong zygodactyl feet with sharp claws for climbing and feeding; and a vision sensitive to ultraviolet light. Parrots are among the most intelligent animals in the world and are known for being extremely smart, using tools to solve complex mechanical problems. Parrots have a long life expectancy of 40 to 80 years or more. It is considered a great milestone for humans to reach, but it is also the lifespan of some parrots.

"Eurasian coot"
The Eurasian coot, also known as the common coot, or Australian coot, is a member of the rail and crake bird family, the Rallidae. It is found in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and parts of North Africa. It has a slaty-black body, a glossy black head and a white bill with a white frontal shield.
The Eurasian coot is mainly a fresh water wading bird that prefers relatively shallow large open lakes, reservoirs, ponds and gravel pits with static or slow moving water.
Tadpoles, snails and other small aquatic creatures are eaten but more commonly the coot has a predominantly vegetarian diet of aquatic plants, algae and grasses taken from the water’s surface or adjacent land. The bird dives easily to forage at the bottom of fresh water lakes or reservoirs bobbing back up to the surface to eat its catch.

"Indian silverbill"
The Indian silverbill or white-throated munia is a small passerine bird found in the Indian Subcontinent and adjoining regions that were formerly considered to include the closely related African silverbill. This estrildid finch is a common resident breeding bird in the drier regions of the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. It has also been introduced into many other parts of the world and has become established in some areas. They forage in small flocks in grassland and scrub habitats.
Dry agricultural fields, grasslands, and thorn scrubs are some preferred habitats for the Indian Silverbill, with bushes, hedgerows and low trees being their typical hangouts. The nest they build is large, loosely constructed with grass. In cities they may even be in crevices of machines and houses. Considering their flocking behavior, sometimes two or more pairs will build the nest together, which hints at community nesting behavior to some extent.

Interesting Facts:
1. It feeds mainly on seeds. It frequents dry open country and cultivation, especially near water.
2. The nest is a large domed grass structure into which 4-10 white eggs are laid.
3. They may also take over weaver bird nests, as weavers usually abandon the construction once nesting is complete.

"Indian Spot-billed Duck"
The Spotbill, {Anas poecilorhyncha} – also known as the Spot-billed Duck or Indian Spotbill – is a large dabbling duck that is a non-migratory breeding duck throughout freshwater wetlands in the Indian subcontinent. The name is derived from the red spot at the base of the bill that is found in the mainland Indian population.
It is commonly found across the Indian subcontinent in freshwater lakes and marshes that have plenty of vegetation. Its feathers make a scaly pattern and there are bright white feathers on its wings. Even when in flight, it can be spotted by its iridescent green speculum.
It has many characteristics in common with the mallard and is a sister species of the Eastern spot-billed duck that is found in Chinese wetlands but it does not bear the red spot on the base of its bill and has a blue speculum instead of a green one.

"Bar-Headed Goose"
These geese are famous for flying extremely high. During their spring migration, they have been seen flying over the peak of Mount Everest at heights of almost 30,000 feet! They also fly far, and have been known to cover 1,000 miles in a single day.
The bar-headed goose (Anser indicus) is a type of goose that lives in wetland areas of Central Asia. They eat mainly grass, wheat, barley and rice.
Native to central Asia, where the species breeds, Bar-headed Geese are found in countries like India, Pakistan, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Japan and other nearby regions. They migrate to parts of South Asia during winters.
Every year during winter, Bar-headed Geese take on a long, arduous journey from Central Asia to parts of India and its neighbouring countries. During their flight, they glide over the mighty Himalayas, flying at seven thousand meters above sea level!

"Jungle Babbler"
The jungle babbler (Argya striata ) is a member of the family Leiothrichidae found in the Indian subcontinent. Jungle babblers are gregarious birds that forage in small groups of six to ten birds, a habit that has given them the popular name of "Seven Sisters" in urban Northern India, and Saath bhai (seven brothers) in Bengali, with cognates in other regional languages which also mean "seven brothers".
These birds are very common near towns and cities particularly in northern India. Visitors to India were very likely to notice these vocal and active birds. It is a noisy bird, and the presence of a flock may generally be known at some distance by the harsh mewing calls, continual chattering, squeaking and chirping produced by its members.
The jungle babbler's habitat is forest and cultivation. This species, like most babblers, is non-migratory, and has short rounded wings and a weak flight.

"Northern Shovelers Duck"
Northern shovelers are named for their unique, shovel-shaped bill that is about two and a half inches long.
Both males and females have different patterns and colorings. The male duck is said to have white breasts, an iridescent green head, and chestnut-brown flanks. The female bird mainly has a pattern of buffs and brown feathers. Their bill is dark gray, and they have yellow eyes.
Northern Shovelers are monogamous and remain together longer than pairs of most other dabbling ducks. They form bonds on the wintering grounds and stay together until just before fall migration.

Northern Shovelers are fairly widespread, with populations living and breeding across parts of the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Interesting Facts:
1. When flushed off the nest, a female Northern Shoveler often defecates on its eggs, apparently to deter predators.
2. There are three other species of shoveler in the world, all closely related to the Northern Shoveler: Cape Shoveler; Australasian Shoveler; and Red Shoveler.
