अंग्रेज़ी के पाठक नहीं समझ पाते। राजलक्ष्मी राव की कहानी नहीं, नहीं एक मध्यवर्गीय महिला की कहानी है जो एक वफ़ादार पत्नी का दायित्व निभाती है।

प्रेमचंद्र की उर्दू कहानी अदीब की इज़्ज़त के अनुवाद में डॉं. अस्मत जहां ने चकाचौंध भरी अमीरों की दुनिया में एक ग़रीब लेखक की व्यथा को बख़ूबी उकेरा है। उसका बिना चीनी-दूध की चाय पीना, कहीं न आना-जाना, ख़स्ताहाल शेरवानी, और उस पर मन में गहरे दबी एक ख़्वाहिश कि अमीरों को दुनिया में उसे सराहना मिले, समझदार पत्नी की दूरंदेश बातें—सब कुछ जीवंत प्रतीत होती हैं।

इस कहानी विशेषांक में तेमसुला आओ की अंग्रेज़ी कहानी ‘लबर्नम फॉर माइ हेड’ का कंचन वर्मा द्वारा किया गया हिंदी अनुवाद भी पेश है। तेमसुला अंग्रेज़ी में लिखने वाली पहली नागा लेखिका थीं जिन्होंने अपने लेखन द्वारा हमेशा नागा संस्कृति को एक पहचान, एक आवाज देने की कोशिश की है । शायद यह पहली बार है जब उनकी इस कहानी का हिन्दी अनुवाद हुआ हो।

इस संग्रह में आपको जोगिंदर पॉल जी के प्रयोगात्मक माइक्रोफ़िक्शन भी पढ़ने का मौक़ा मिलेगा। कितने कम शब्दों में कितनी बड़ी बातें कह जाते हैं पॉल साहब। इन छोटी-छोटी कहानियों का कीर्ति रामचंद्र ने बख़ूबी
अनुवाद किया है।

✍️ Backstory of the photo:

I don’t know when or how the Tiranga Pasta tradition started at home: a fusion of pomodoro, carbonara and pesto. Every August, on Indian Independence Day (which happens to be Ferragosto in Italy) we gather around a dish of spaghetti decorated with the flags of the two nations: Italy, where my father was brought up, and India, where I was born and learned to love everything Italian. My grandmother will always be my Nonna to me; my childhood nickname was Tortellini Gupta, thanks to my fondness for Italian khana; I will never tire of correcting my friends’ pronunciation of bruschetta and calzone. I wasn’t born or educated in Italy but my Indian mother and Italian-at-heart father brought me up to be a good Indian ragazza! The tricolor tradition remains unchanged over the years with one exception: a dairy intolerance has forced me to forgo my beloved parmigiano for plant-based options. Nothing can come in the way. Viva l’Italia in India!
