“बाँझ का/क्या जाने प्रसव की पीड़ा?”
(Proverb in Hindi vernaculars)

“How could a barren/infertile know of the pains of the child-delivery/labour/parturiency/parturition?”
(Translation of the above proverb)

[That means : Agony/pain of the person going through a difficult phase in life, or who has been emotionally/physically stressed, can be understood best only by a person who is going through or has already been through similar suffering(s). This proverb is similar to two other Hindi proverbs: #1 “जिसके पैर न फटी बिवाई, वो क्या जाने पीर पराई?” (Translation: “How can the pain of others be understood by one whose own heels have not cracked (in difficult/hard life-journey?”) #2 “घायल की गति घायल जाने ।” (Translation: “The state of a wounded person is comprehended (best) only by a person who was hurt before.”)]

– Hindi (Devanagari: हिन्दी) is a standardized and Sanskritised register of the Hindustani language, native to northern India. Along with the English language, Hindi, written in the Devanagari script (देवनागरी; an alphasyllabary of India and Nepal), is the official language of the Government of India. It is also one of the 22 scheduled languages of the Republic of India. Hindi is the lingua franca of the so-called Hindi belt in India (or Hindi heartland; refers to those Indian states whose official language is Hindi and have a Hindi-speaking majority, namely Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh). Outside India, it is an official language which is known as Fiji Hindi in Fiji, and is a recognised regional language in Mauritius, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Suriname. Hindi is the fourth most-spoken first language in the world (over 300 million speakers), after Mandarin, Spanish and English.

“The blind man distributing gingelly-cookies: turns round and round, giving away the cookies to own people (surrounding him).”
(Translation of the above proverb)

[That means: This proverb is a satire on the person who apparently without his awareness/ knowledge/ recognition (analogy: blind man) causes the advantages/ benefits of his authority (analogy: gingelly-cookies) going unduely/ illegitimately to his own people. The proverb applies usually as reference to the misuse of administrative/public authority.]
