The limewater test conducted by students of Delhi International School Dwarka, Sector 23 is used to check for carbon dioxide gas. The gas is passed through a clear solution of calcium hydroxide (limewater).

💡If carbon dioxide is present, the solution turns cloudy or milky. This happens because a solid called calcium carbonate forms.
💡If you keep passing carbon dioxide through the solution, it becomes clear again. This is because the calcium carbonate reacts further to form calcium hydrogen carbonate, which dissolves in the solution.
