CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!🖋️

Greetings,

La Voice, the official newsletter of Kirori Mal College, invites you to write for its August Issue.🌸

🌱Theme: Not a Clean Slate
🗓️Deadline: 29th August, 2026

The month of August brings with it a series of new beginnings for many of us. But every new beginning is often mistaken for a clean slate. Yet, more often than not, it emerges from what existed before it: old versions of ourselves, unfulfilled dreams, difficult choices, and forgotten acts of courage. Reinvention is hardly ever immediate; rather, it is shaped by the constant unlearning of old habits, the reclaiming of overlooked parts of ourselves, and the willingness to embrace change despite uncertainty.

To begin again is not necessarily to become someone entirely unrecognisable. Sometimes, it is about returning to the self that existed before it was buried beneath the weight of pressures, expectations, and fears. At other times, it may mean choosing a different path, discovering a new sense of purpose, or simply allowing oneself the grace to grow. Every beginning carries within it traces of what came before, reminding us that growth is not a departure from our former selves, but an ongoing dialogue with them.

In this issue, we invite you to explore what reinvention means to you, be it through poems, short fiction, letters, personal/photo essays, photographs, comics, or illustrations; we welcome it all!

On 15 August, Kirori Mal College Hostel celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour and collective enthusiasm at the Mess Lawn. The programme commenced with the rendition of Vande Mataram, followed by the felicitation of the Chief Guest, Principal Prof. Dinesh Khattar, and his wife, Mrs. Anita Khattar, with planter pots. The ceremony then proceeded with the unfurling of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dinesh Khattar spoke about the growing competition among students and emphasised the importance of avoiding comparisons with others while focusing on individual growth. He assured the hostellers that they were free to share their grievances and concerns. He also highlighted the hostel’s distinguished alumni, including Amitabh Bachchan, and encouraged students to strive for excellence and aspire to leave a lasting legacy. He further mentioned that
Mrs. Anita Khattar reflected on the Principal’s dedication to the college, observing that while he once had two children, he now had thousands of students whom he cared for with similar affection and commitment.
The Warden sir addressed the gathering by emphasising the responsibility of giving back to the nation. He spoke about the history and significance of Independence Day and urged students to work for the nation and contribute meaningfully to its progress.
