उत्तर : पानी के पैंदे पर रखे सिक्के का ऊपर उठा हुआ दिखाई देने का प्रमुख कारण प्रकाश का अपवर्तन है। बिंदु 0 पर रखे सिक्के से चलने वाली प्रकाश किरणें पानी की सतह से अपवर्तित होकर नेत्र में प्रवेश करती है। इन अपवर्तित किरणों को पीछे की ओर बढ़ाने पर जहाँ पर भी मिलेगी वहीँ हमें सिक्का दिखाई देगा अर्थात 0 से0। पर दिखाई देगा।
