श्रीहरिकोटा के सतीश धवन अंतरिक्ष केंद्र से PSLV C-40 से 31 उपग्रह एक साथ लॉन्च किए गए। इसी के साथ अंतरिक्ष में भारत की सेंचुरी पूरी हो गई। यह इसरो का 42वां और साल 2018 का पहला मिशन है।

PSLV C-40 ने मौसम विज्ञान संबंधी कार्टोसेट-2 सीरीज का सेटेलाइट और अन्य 30 को लेकर आज सुबह 9.28 बजे उड़ान भरी। बता दें कि मिशन से संबंधित समिति की मंजूरी मिलने के बाद इसके लिए गुरुवार सुबह 5.29 बजे उलटी गिनती शुरू की गई। 30 अन्य सेटेलाइट में भारत का एक माइक्रो और एक नैनो सेटेलाइट है। जबकि छह अन्य देशों के तीन माइक्रो और 25 नैनो सेटेलाइट हैं। ये देश हैं- कनाडा, फिनलैंड, फ्रांस, कोरिया, ब्रिटेन और अमेरिका।
कार्टोसैट -2 की विशेषताएं:

- कार्टोसैट-2 उपग्रह एक बड़े कैमरे की तरह है।
- इसमें मल्टी स्पेक्ट्रल कैमरे भी लगे हैं।
- इसे 'आई इन द स्काई' यानी आसमानी आंख भी कह सकते हैं।
- यह एक अर्थ इमेजिंग उपग्रह है।
- सीमा पर नजर रखने के लिए कार्टोसैट-2 इसरो की मदद करेगा।
- इससे उच्च क्वालिटी की तस्वीर मिलेगी।
- सटीक मैप बनाने में भी यह उपयोगी होगी।
