VARDAAN
A six year old boy studying in class 1. Always at the forefront he loves to be the first one to participate in the class activities. Very restless but obedient and honest, Vardaan learns his lessons quickly. He also said that he does not want to go to his day school because learning is more fun in Shiksha Rath. His mother especially is grateful to Shiksha Rath for the education his son is receiving.
Vardaan stays with his parents and elder sister Khushi who is studying in class 3. His parents originally from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh came to Delhi for search of job. Vardaan’s father works as a construction worker and his mother works as a domestic help. His parents earn about Rs. 7000/- a month.
Vardaan and his sister live in an environment of fear and violence because their father is a drunkard and beats up their mother every now and then and even to the kids. Vardaan’s father spends all his earnings on his drinks and does not contribute in running the family. Only his mother runs the family with her mere income of about Rs. 3000/- a month. Vardaan and his sister do not enjoy good facilities in the house because of the low income of their mother. And given an opportunity they want to get out of the house especially from his father.

Story of SEEMA.
Seema, a six year old girl studying in class 1 joined Shiksha Rath in 2013. She is a quiet and fragile girl. In the initial stage, she was a very slow learner and would always seek attention from the teachers and interns. And she would always say that she was hungry. In our survey it was found out that she is always left alone in the house after school as her mother is working and her father is in a rehab. Thus, there is no one to take of her emotionally and physically. Now she is making a lot of progress in her studies and is very keen in learning her everyday lessons unlike before.
Originally from Gondajila, Uttar Pradesh, Seema’s parents came to Delhi in search of job. Seema’s father use to work as a bus driver and her mother works as a house maid. Seema’s father is now in a rehabilitation centre to check his substance abuse problem. He takes alcohol and drugs and also used to beat up her mother. Seema’s mother earns about Rs. 1100/- a month. Seema has an elder sister Laxmi who is studying in class 6. Seema was once hit by a motorbike on her way to school in which her head was injured. At this very young age Seema is living a very difficult life when children of her age should be loved, pampered and given the best of everything.
As told by her mother Joining Shiksha Rath is the only good thing that has happened to Seema. Because she cannot afford to provide this kind of education for Seema with her earnings and she is very happy her daughter is making a progress in her studies.
