Slum Se Kalam program aims to address these challenges by providing comprehensive educational Support
Operating as usual
The government had granted Right to Education(RTE) to all the children of India in 2009. But the materialisation of the goal is an uphill destination. Lack of understanding of the importance of education is a widely-prevalent issue. Every year, many children leave schools to earn a little more and help their families survive. Parents, too, prefer to make their children work rather than sending them to school from where they seem to return 'empty-handed'. Before the question of daily bread, they can not think of investing in their child's education for a better future. They don't have living proofs around them of successful people who were once poor like them. Why would they believe us when we say education is important for their upliftment?
Through Slum Se Kalam, an initiative of Aaina Foundation, people are being made aware of the importance of continuing education. Their approach includes webinars, talent hunt, competitions and more events to involve students and parents. They will mark their progress through a close check on the attendance records and regular interaction with parents. The core team analyses the slum situation and tries to reach and rectify the root causes of many interlinked problems. They also strive to arrange old books, laptops, and other resources for the use of students.
Step by step, we are moving towards a better world as initiatives like these function to bridge the rich-poor gap. You can contribute to the cause through volunteering, donating old clothes, books or money.

that children’s needs in Delhi could possibly be very different from those in Rajasthan? Despite forming a major chunk of the population, children’s rights and demands have been clearly under-represented in the manifestos of political parties. We have reached out to various nooks and corners of India to find out really . This election, we insist – do not just vote for yourself, also . Regular happiness classes enable students to reflect on the relationship between their feelings, thoughts, behaviour and their impact on themselves, family, society around them and the natural environment.
The syllabus is universal and designed age appropriately. Like any other subject, students have a happiness period every day.
Teacher’s Handbook for Happiness Class includes a description of mindful activities, stories and activities with reflective questions, and self-expression.
Children interact with the teacher and each other on stories like- 'New Friend'- a child who finds a ball in the playground but is conflicted on whether or not to return it; and get to practice values like gratitude and trust through activities like 'Shashi Aunty is the Best' which helps students acknowledge and appreciate the effort that the school support staff puts in to ensure effective functioning of the school.
The overall purpose of Happiness Curriculum is to support students in their journey to sustainable happiness through engagement in meaningful and reflective stories and activities.

Can there be any love purer than that of a mother? Rajo*’s story is the story of a survivor, a “SHERO” who braved the odds of child labour and abuse at the workplace every single day.
All of 16, Rajo became a mother. She fell in love with the child as soon as she saw him after its birth. Irrespective of the ordeal she endured, all she wanted was to give her child the best she could.
Today, being a mother of a 3-year-old and only 19 years of age, Rajo multitasks after receiving vocational training through our New Horizons programme. Her sole aim is to give a better life to her son. Read her story here: www.savethechildren.in/resource-centre/stories-of-change/helping-a-single-mother-ensure-the-best-for-her-child

I have visited different countries, been a part of non- profits across the world, working for the cause of underprivileged children. Each time I see a child smiling I feel like I am home, whatever possible way I have been able to contribute – through photography or by raising funds it has given me an unparalleled sense of satisfaction. A better world for children is like a puzzle that needs to have bits from all over the world to make it complete, it cannot happen in isolation, I am doing my bit, are you? - David Lofman
Save the Children’s founder Eglantyne Jebb raised a voice for the children when World War I left children of the world dismayed, helpless and in distress. Her love for children preceded everything from her own safety to comfort. A true child rights stalwart, it was only because of her continued resistance against policies that were not inclusive of children - that built an organization which is changing children’s lives since the last 100 years.
"The entire education system is captive of the examination system. The value of education is being based on just numbers (marks). The education system is the only place where the customer is blamed for failure."

The mobile with the internet is a potentially dangerous device for a kid without training of how to use it. It exposes them to bullying, harassment and other vices of the medium in more ways than we can imagine.
In today’s digital age, it’s important to protect your children and make them aware of the risks of being exposed to the web.
